I like how close Garfield is here. He has the joke factor appeal, yet you could make the argument he would have been a good president if not for getting shot.

Historians pretty consistently rank Polk in the top 10-15 presidents so no he's not just a meme.Historians also rate presidents by how much they cause long term policy changes, not by how positive those policy changes are. Like...historians rate Andrew Jackson in the top 10, even though he ignored the supreme court, caused a constitutional crisis, genocided the native americans, got impeached, and came the closest of any president ever to being convicted after being impeached. But he "expanded executive power" (which is true, pretty much every president after him flexed that amount of power). (That said, I don't have a strong opinion on Polk. I just have a strong opinion about historian rankings). --- Cats land on their feet. Toast lands peanut butter side down.
