Autoequip can be dumb for some ARR equipment (in particular I remember it kept wanting to give my DRK int accessories)

Also to the new guys - it's possible to add people to your friends group outside of your server, so if you ever want to queue up with a B8er feel free to post in the topic and one of us might be around

I wouldn't mind running a Tank or Healer to help out with those pesky DPS queue times

Level 50 hit! And on the level 49 MSQ at that. Definitely caught up on me there with me mainlining it, I was 15 levels ahead at one point.

Yeah the end levels of ARR are paced weirdly level wise.

Playing back when ARR first came out (before the many multitudes of EXP buffs) you actually hit a wall around the mid-to-late 40s where you couldn't progress the MSQ unless you stopped and leveled for a bit if you were mostly mainlining it.

Even now its where you catch up in levels for awhile because there's so few quests between level gaps.

You'll be ahead again soon though because of the post ARR patch story.

I haven't done a single sidequest since level 30, other than the blue ones, so the streamlining must be insane.

OK, sooo... How does Flare fall into the rotation exactly? I've only been using Fire 3 raw without Firestarter to get Astral Fire 3, which hasn't actually happened much so far. And it costs a full MP bar??

You use Flare for the last spell of your aoe fire phase (preferably with quickcast or triplecast since it has a really long cast time). You don't use it for single target.

Pretty sure you get like 8x as much EXP from ARR quests now as you used to when it came out, too.

The last two dungeons in FF14 are okay for first-timers and awful for people who've already done them. They're super long, everyone is overgeared so the fights are a joke, and Square hadn't figured out that including very lengthy plot cutscenes in the middle of a dungeon was a bad idea, so back in the day all the veterans would advise people to skip the cutscenes and watch them in the cutscene viewer later. Square's solution to this was to make the cutscenes unskippable, which benefited the first-timers but made it worse for everyone else.

There's a daily roulette that only puts you in those two dungeons, just to maximize the number of people going through them so newbies can progress the story. The roulettes give out a ton of EXP and can really help level up a class, and people still barely do it because of how much of a slog it is.

Solid narrative conclusion to the ARR main story, though!

I mean I'm certainly interested! The Darth Vader dude seemed actually upset that I killed that one guy, and there seems to be some kind of undercurrent of him wanting to end racism?? Which would maybe more potent if the game had actual had any themes about that in the Alliance side of things, but maybe there will be some of that later.

I wanna know more about these characters.

Believe me when I say that compared to the expansion stories, ARR's story is very mediocre. They only only better and better.

To add on to this, while the ARR story is fairly mediocre it also lays a lot of important groundwork for everything that is to come. Narrative threads established during 2.0 are still paying off in the newest content today.

FF14 is very, very good about paying off plot threads. Or even just plot details. Everything from start to finish matters.

I dunno about straight up worse but Stormblood's story is definitely more infuriating than ARR's. It's one of those things that only gets worse the more you think about it.

Yeah that's how I feel. The best parts of Stormblood are better, but the worst parts are worse. I quite liked some parts of ARR's story too. Cid's real great.

I think the leadup to Stormblood was great, but the story within pretty disjointed.

Stormblood was two zones too large, IMO. They could've cut out the Peaks and not missed much, and adjusted Yanxia to be a larger portion of both Ruby Sea and the Steppe. Also, the Namazu aren't endearing in the slightest and I merely tolerate them cuz the crafter dailies are nice.

For things it did right:
- Making Yotsuyu and the Tsukuyomi fight as awesome as it was. She was amazing both as a petty villainess and when we're supposed to pity her.
Azim Steppe and both dungeons by it were wonderful. I had to farm the HELL out of the Burn for the Orchestrion.
-It brought Mahjong to the Gold Saucer.
- I've heard hearsay that the Eureka mechanics were great.
- Music for the final zone was amazing.
- NEW HOUSING AREA (Proud owner of Shiro 10-10 on Balmung, even if the interior is unfinished.Having a solo primal fight, and successfully demonstrating the danger it poses to your allies.
I'd gush a bit more but my phone is having a seizure.

Get some cheap food. The 3% experience gain is worth a lot more than whatever stats it gives, so get a stack of 99 Boiled Eggs or Raisins or something from a vendor.

Gear for alt jobs, maybe. Dyes you want for glam. Glamour prisms and dispellers if you can. Not a whole lot of good stuff to buy without access to the market board.

Oh yeah I have a question for you about this and the sidequests since you said you were able to avoid most of them.

Did you end up having to do Aurum Vale for the exp? The true ARR experience isn't complete without it!

Here's a visual representation of the ARR rework that they did. Censored the names of the 2.1+ patches in case of spoilers. They also made some in-quest changes to make things go faster - an example I saw online was that one quest to collect eggs had the number of eggs reduced from 8 to 3. Also, lol 2.1.
