You just can't return to the same time-line. You'll end up in a very close match depending on the severity of the change(s) you have made.

The basic premise involves rotating singularities inside a magnetic field. By altering the speed and direction of rotation you can travel both forward and backward in time. Time, itself, can be understood in terms of connected lines. When you go back in time, you travel on your original time-line. Once you arrive at your destination, the slightest change alters time. The fact that YOU are now in that time changes the time-line. Once you arrive, the time-line is forever changed.

This isn't really time travel then. This is a one way trip to an alternate universe that just happens to exist at a different point in time.

if wormholes exist, then time travel should, too. because if the ends of said wormhole have different local gravity, then time will move differently on each end. even if it's only a slight difference, it'd increase as their local clocks keep ticking differently.

Time travel is not possible. Butterfly Effect. If you went back in time, that would change the future, which means you wouldn't be here to have time traveled in the first place. Time travel to the future is not possible because of the same thing, you'd alter a future past that you wouldn't be a part of. Time seems like it is moving, but really it's more like a whole series of events that are frozen in crystal.

Yes it is. You just can't return to the same timeline you started from.

It's a paradox. You wouldn't be in the time you're in if not for the events of the past. "Traveling" to the past means you were never born.

Robert Heinlien wrote a bunch of books with these alternate timelines. Each timeline is named after the astronaut that first stepped on the moon. Of course, there are several Neil Armstrong timelines.

The way I understand it, forward time travel is theoretically possible but a one way trip, while backwards time travel is basically impossible with our current understanding of the laws of physics and whatnot.

This is true, you just need to move at fast speeds. Astronauts move forward in time fraction of a second, depending how long they remain in orbit. If you traveled at or close to the speed of light, you can travel as far into the future as you wanted. It would be instantanious (if moving at the speed of light) or very quickly (if close to the speed of light).

That wouldn't really be time travel. You would just be going to a point where time is moving slower due to the effects of gravity.

certainly possible, but people a lot smarter than either of us think they should. my statement also assumes that gravity wouldn't propagate through said wormhole (evening out the two sides of the wormhole), and that may also be a bad assumption.

but time has been moving at different speeds locally all along. so, one one side of the wormhole, several more years, decades, or even more might have passed.

Yes, but every location in the universe is moving at a different rate.

The CMB is the true rate of the time of the universe, which is about 30,000 years ahead of us. Everything else is beholden to gravitational time dilation. For example, the Earth's core is 2-3 years younger than the rest of the planet.

I mean, I totally understand where you're coming from, but unless there's an identical Earth there that started off at the exact same point, it's unmeasurable in terms of time travel. Think of the ship in the Series 10 finale of Doctor Who if you've seen it. It would have to be something like that.
