I don't really get how this is a big deal. If you don't hit it then he just misses like an idiot and you still stab him in the stomach. It's the definition of an unimportant decision.

Not every choice is about the substance of it. Sometimes it's purely about style.

I'm a paragon guy but I also have a base instinct to instantly hit every interrupt that pops up, for better or worse.

I burned that one Krogan alive in that one mission and immediately reloaded my save, lol.

I loved how many horrible compromises my pure Paragon had to make at the end... slowly beaten down by war and friends dying. I didn't intend for Mordin to be killed by me it just happened... the Krogans were too much of a threat.. then Wrex.. I brought peace to the Geth and Quarians and loved Edi, and Synthesis seemed like the Reapers win, so then I figured I couldn't trust anyone else to do it right. I pushed against the Illusive Man all game but in the end my good girl Shepherd was forced to admit he was right. What a poignant ending.

Destroy is a little weird because yes you're killing the Geth and Edi but it feels the most paragon because it's a more hopeful ending to me. Shepherd is disagreeing with the reapers that humanity and robots can't live together and he's also breaking the cycle. Sure it's sad that Edi died but they could make a new Edi in like a week right?

I don't understand this.

Breaking the cycle and having faith in humanity/aliens to not destroy themselves is the hopeful ending to me. Control and Synthesize are both endings where Shepherd doesn't believe in humanity.

But that's just how I see it, you don't have to understand or agree with me!

Ah yes, proving the Reapers wrong that humanity and robots can't live together by... murdering all of the synthetics.

Checks out.

that's on the star kid for being a dick and taking the geth and edi out with them. if control is an option he damn well should have been able to offer a "reapers self-destruct" button instead of a "all advanced ai dies" one. just because they were running reaper code at that point it shouldn't follow that he couldn't just order all the reapers to just drive themselves into the nearest star or something while leaving the geth and edi alone

By that argument wouldn't Reject be the ending where Shep believes in humanity?

Reject is the best option!

But its implementation is super shitty and comes off as the devs trying to throw a bone, but the bone was already eaten and shitted out by a dog.

He believes in organics because he's basically conceding this cycle to the Reapers. Or I guess he believes in humanity's ability to help Commander Yahgpard win the day.

I don't think Control is a lack of faith in humanity regardless.

Not really because it's clear that the Reapers will win the war imminently so humanity will be eliminated along with all other intelligent life this cycle.

I mean, you can make the case in a more thematic sense that he believes the efforts and legacy of humanity will prevail in advancing the ball enough for the next cycle to find a better path than the ones The Catalyst provides. In that sense I think Reject has some strong thematic power to it... it's just I feel it's pretty clear the devs/writing team don't agree and don't give it that chance.

I mean, you can headcanon that Paragon Control Shepard takes the Reapers and just rides off into the sunset with them never to be seen again and leaves the galaxy to humanity, the turians, asari, geth, etc. but that doesn't mesh with how the ending presents it.

Edit: That's lowkey one of my bigger gripes with how Control is portrayed actually. I think it's better to not present Shepard doing anything with their newfound authority and leave it to the player to decide how their Shepard would act instead of having them narrate an intention.

One of my favorite things about the Control ending is that Shepard's monologue is different depending on whether you're Paragon or Renegade.

I don't remember what ending I chose except Shepard died from my choice or at least would never be seen again because they set up a memorial for them.

I don't think it was destroy though because I remember EDI still being there at the end.

Synthesis is the best ending because it's the only one that allows EDI and Joker to fuck.
