Some friends were asking me to compare In 'N Out with their favorites. I went out and got a cheeseburger and fries from Shake Shack, Five Guys, McDonald's, and In 'N Out.

Five Guys is probably the most impressive, but also the most expensive. Their burger alone was already more than In 'N Out and McDonald's COMBINED.

Shake Shack was pricey as well, but not as much. It was alright. Wouldn't recommend their fries.

McDonald's cheeseburger is really sad. The total order was less than $3 and it shows lol. I don't think anyone actually orders a cheeseburger. I probably should've ordered a quarter pounder for a fair comparison, but it's too late for that now. McDonald's did have the best fries though (Five Guys too, but their fries aren't "regular" fries; they have a special "Five Guys" seasoning).

In 'N Out is a clear winner in terms of value. Their burger was smaller, but also MUCH cheaper (get the grilled onions). Their fries are alright... don't let them get cold; eat them fast.

I was going to go to The Habit (originated from SoCal, I believe), but it already took me over an hour to go to all these places, so I didn't. Habit is alright from what I remember.

Anywho, what's your favorite burger place? Where else have you been and how would you compare them?
:)

If we're talking fast food chains I'm Californian so I'm supposed to say In N Out... But I'm also Bay Area native so I get the luxury of saying Super Duper Burger. The real local burger chain great! I love that they use Sir Kensington's ketchup instead of Heinz's too. Aside from those, Five Guys is consistently solid and they also have my favorite fast food french fries (they somehow always manage to have a crisp exterior and perfectly creamy interior, and then added that cajun spice boosts it a whole other level). I like Shake Shack too. I'll eat Wendy's and Carl's Jr., but most other fast food burger places I don't bother with. I'll make an exception when they have some novelty I might be interested in, like when I tried the Impossible Whopper at Burger King. Edit: forgot about The Habit. I like them. Their burgers aren't bad, but where they really shine is on their more unique side offerings (the fried green beans are my favorite) and their house beverages.

If we're just talking burgers in general, Au Cheval in Chicago has the best burger I've ever had. And the ambiance is really cool.

A local place is by far the best in the area.

Five Guys is probably the best fast food burger nearby, but it's by far the most expensive too.

It if those 4, I like Five Guys bacon cheeseburgers. And their fries. Though, Id probably say McDonalds fries are better. Ive never been to Shake Shack, but I have wanted to try... And not really a fan of In-N-Out... But thats just based on the 4 your mentioned... There was one local place that made good burgers, but I think its been gone for a while. And Im not really a fan of any of the other local places (at least as far as burgers are concerned).

I actually get the bacon & cheese hot dog at Five Guys fairly often. It's cheaper and still delicious.

My favorite though for fast food is probably McDonalds. There isn't a lot of diversity in Lansing's fast food choices.

If however I get anywhere with a good breakfast burger I am sold. Love me a burger on texas toast, hashbrowns, & a runny egg.

Out in Florida I found a chain called Checkers that was frickin' incredible. Good prices, good variety, good taste. Fast and consistent at all locations. I still think In N' Out is a better burger, but Checkers is more affordable.

An honorable mention out here in the Pac NW is a chain called Frugal's. Right up there with Checkers with price, quality, and variety, but they're a bit slower and there aren't nearly as many locations.

There is a local restaurant called Wimpy's Burger Basket. 1/3 pound patty (the perfect size), comes on a kaiser roll, you get two sides (I usually get french fries and mac salad), and they have a table of over 100 different condiments you can put on your burger.

I have been an In-N-Out guy my whole life but they opened a Shake Shack near me last summer and I like it way more than In-N-Out. The quality and taste of their meat is unreal and the cheese fries are . They also have the best chicken nuggets ive ever had.

in-n-out is still great but mostly because its so cheap. Its like 1/2 as much as shake shack and 1/3 as much as five guys.

Five Guys is probably my favorite as far as chains go. It's also like the only chain around me that isn't McDonald's, BK, or Wendy's.

I usually get a little cheeseburger with onion, green pepper, jalapeno, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and hot sauce with cajun fries.

Burger King has a shit website. If you want to see the menu you have to enter a location for delivery or pick up. Which means you can't see the menu at all if they're closed.

Probably a local place. Other than that, maybe McDonald's.

I can't remember if I've ever had Five Guys, but the last time I walked into one I saw their prices and walked out. It was more expensive than normal restaurants.

As far as fast good goes, Rally's/Checker's.

Steak and Shake is good too, but they've gone downhill.

Whataburger is up there with Rally's and arguably surpasses it, but the closest one to me is ~7 hours away.
