I still don't get the hate for the last fight scene. I've watched the movie three times and I still don't see what's wrong with the CGI. Heck, I actually really like the shot of them both falling into the train area and just punching at each other.

It was a solid Marvel movie, easily in the top half in any list. Although honestly I'd have preferred that they cut some time from the final fight (with all its usual MCU big fight chaos) to spend more time exploring the city and do some worldbuilding. I feel like the idea of a secret city with amazing tech fueled by magic metal could have been been so much more than "it's a regular city with grass hut roofs" and a mining pit. I'm also a bit baffled that this bastion of society still used trial by combat to pick their leaders. Kind of a letdown in that regard.

I never understood this complaint. This is clearly a different society. Just because its influenced by the highest form of technology, its still allowed to be governed by traditional values. In fact. Thats literally what the plot of the movie is about.

The white CIA guy was the weakest part of the movie. Was lame in every scene he was in.

Other than that my main disappointment with it was that Killmonger was just "purple Black Panther" (or orange? i can't remember which one was which at the end lol) during the final battle. Could have at least given him a different costume. >_>

But yeah, really good flick.

I can accept the thatched roofs as tradition easily enough, but you'd think they would have grown beyond barbarism due to access to an infinite supply of magic metal.

Also about the CGI

People want to bitch about the last scene, but thats just where people noticed it. The problem is the Black Panther suit. Not the CGI. The suit doesnt have enough texture and therefore the lighting on it seems really out of place.

If they had kept the suit from Civil War, or made one comparable, it would t haven been as bad. But theres lots of scenes you can see the suit doesnt really work.

Even still. That doesnt detract from the awesome fight sequences. The whole final fight is very well choreographed. But especially the fight in Korea, from the casino to the car chase. Master class. The cinematography in that scene alone is wonderful

I watched it again recently and it really is fantastic. I'm a pretty big Marvel fanboy and if you told me 20 years ago that we would get s string of movies over 10 years that were so high in quality I would have laughed in doubt. Pushing out a Black Panther movie and having it being so amazing still kind of blows my mind and the kid in me that grew up reading comics every day is still gushing a bit. I can only wish for a quality TMNT adaptation in the future, which was my other obsession as a child.

I liked Shuri, M'Baku, and Andy Serkis. The rest of the characters were kinda forgettable. Terrible CGI and third act too.

It was ok. It's probably one I'd watch a 2nd time but it's nothing ground-breaking story-wise. It's basically just Lion King with extra steps.

Forreal? Young African male is the son of the king. The king is killed and now the young man has to be king but oh no dickhead other dude/uncle becomes king. Now young man has to fight other dude to become king and rightfully get his army of hot lionesses.

They're a society in a bubble that basically sees the world as its enemy because of the magic metal in question. Asgardians were pretty barbaric too despite also being advanced.

Honestly, I thought the whole slavery angle by Killmonger was kinda dumb as a parallel. Like, it was being pushed that Wakanda had some responsibility towards lower class black Americans, but Wakanda's as isolation a nation as it fucking gets. They don't owe more than any other nation, just cause they happen to be majority black.

Also, I took some issue with some of the combat scenes. Other than that, it really is tightly put together.

Theres many reasons why it struck a cord with black audiences. The idea of a society of black people being at the top, not the bottom is one of the major ones.

So if there was this society. A person like Killmonger, who grew up at the bottom. But less red there was a whole nation of people like him, with the power and wealth to help the whole world. Who instead hide away from the world.

Id maybe be a little upset too. Especially if I come from royalty of this country.

yea, but Killmonger had nothing to do with the old king's death, and he became the legitimate ruler. yea, there's the civil war in Wakanda thing, but outside of the women warriors, I'd be reluctant to make any parallels, as that women unit is based on a historical unit of female warriors (the Dahomey Amazons), and they were fighting their own not some outside force

I see it as Killmonger being a pan-Africanist, and if you're not for black people, you're against them, even if you happen to be black yourself.

there's also colonialism, and how it damaged most of Africa, including Wakanda's neighbors, and Wakanda didn't seem to care, even though they have agents and spies all over the world.

plus he was both Wakandan and African-American, so that likely created some inner turmoil, thinking about how those from one of his heritages could have helped those from the other.

I'll have to revisit it. First time around I just felt like I was watching yet another cookie cutter Marvel movie except this time it was black people and african culture and I was supposed to love the movie for that fact alone but I still couldn't just stop thinking that I had seen the entire movie 20 times over already from the very first scene

Maybe I'm expecting too much or being overly harsh. The hype was lost on me though. I thought it was good, that's all.

It was just okay. Liked it better than spiderman, worse than Thor rag.

It was in the middle somewhere as far as marvel movies go. Nothing really jumped out as wow, but I wasn't like this sucks either.
