I no longer have an interest in polls after 2016 and 2020 were both off significantly. One of the more accurate pollsters of the last cycle was basically someone who went "yeah I just add Trump votes to the samples because I feel like he should be doing better".

They had legit reasoning for doing this. I feel you are leaving that out.

I mentioned on discord, but this one had funding for repairs of a local dam deemed unsafe years ago that we finally got the funding to repair. I'd much rather my house not be at risk of being destroyed than carry on political theatre that also wouldn't result in $2000 checks.

Rock: the problem with just calling it a polling error is that every single error happened in the same direction for the most part. That signals likely a problem with the polling itself. Though yes Democrats should be very encouraged by Georgia polling. Trump might be what hands Georgia to the Democrats for senators.

This isn't true actually. I'd be happy for them to delay the dam funds if it actually meant $1400 checks for everyone. But it would delay the funds for mere political theater which would have narrow political ramifications. It isn't about anyone getting theirs here. Its about giving up something for arguably nothing in return.

You can't know if it would net the relief funds or not. You are saying it would amount to nothing because it is what supports your stance on passing the defense fund, red.

This same logic could have been applied to the 1.94 trillion relief bill. Which to be fair, I believe you unequivocally supported then also to remain consistent.

Thats exactly what is meant by a systematic polling error. Those are typically 3-4 points in the average election.

The margin of error on a given poll, in contrast, is a sampling error. Averaging these over a ton of polls makes them very small, and if those were all that existed then polling averages would only ever get very close races wrong.

Saying we could we have had Bernie sanders is as accurate as saying we could have had Oprah. Who the hell knows for sure if it is true because we werent close to that outcome.

It means nothing coming from you tbh, you take things said at you differently than you do seeing other interactions. To be fair Rock's offerings to the board the past while have not brought anything to me so him blocking me is fine and I think the matter can be dropped safely.

Anyway Corrik I gave your post some thought, and I think it is 99% political anger which is hard for me to quell. It is either 'be engaged and be very angry because a lot of things lately for sure are worth being angry over' or shrug and don't think about it much, and you won't see me when I am not thinking about it so when I do post in politics it might seem very slanted towards anger.

I was just talking to my partner last night about really this is the happiest I have ever been because I have most of what I dreamed of years ago when I was very lonely and in a bad place mentally. My anger doesn't come from a bad place, but I can understand that some don't like anger much.

Now I can admit that me being over useless political chatter as people die can have some side effects, but it's kind of where I am at when discussing politics. Like yes, a poll favoring the democrats when they usually slant republican seems pretty good. You also don't need to post to know that. You also don't contribute anything by going 'dis good tho???" with questioning and such. Like, yeah it seems good but given the brutal beating a lot of polls took this cycle I'd rather talk about issues. That's the problem with us progressive types, we're one track on substance.

i've said "ok full throttle" in response to vlado linking to the daily mail, for instance. "ok ___" is definitely a phrase that pops up in here from time to time.

if you're not familiar with the phrase and thought rock was just trying to be an ass to you with that post then yeah, i can see why you were annoyed. though, on the other hand, don't you actually like ulti? >_> if someone said "ok red sox" to me, i wouldn't be all that bothered, even if that person despised red sox!

As someone with personal investment in that defense bill, I am going to guess you don't actually know the kind of stuff that goes into a defense bill.

Theres a lot of infrastructure spending tied to defense bills and things like that. Its not all bombs.

As someone whose family and friends livelihood depends on the Defense Bill, and whose paycheck was delayed for weeks over budget fights in the past, delaying the NDAA would have been perfectly acceptable.

There was no risk to your dam specifically because of a delay on the defense Bill, because even though (ironically) the Army Corp of Engineers is mostly comprised of civilians, being formed under the Department of the Army means their mission stands regardless of whether theyre getting paid or not.

Glad DC is doing this, but the fact that were in a position where doses are in danger of expiring means that were failing at using vaccines quickly enough. If this is a regular occurrence we should be expanding the categories of people being vaccinated until were supply limited.

Well, it's not like they got extra doses. They just got a dose that would've normally went to somebody else. It's the same number regardless. The states aren't getting an exact amount based on anything, so there shouldn't be a case of "Oh darn now we're off since we specifically only got X for X amount of front line workers/whatever."

Likewise, if they had just expired, there'd then be two "leftover" doses later.

Ftr there is an actual debate about doing this (since afaik a single dose appears to give like 80% protection, you'd get more total societal protection by using one dose per person for now and then coming back and giving people the second doses later). The main issue is that single-dose trials weren't done.

I think I'd be against it overall, but it's not completely insane.

To be fair, I've read that Israel, who is doing very well in terms of vaccine distribution, is "pulling people off the street" to make sure doses get used before they expire. I don't know how literally that is meant, but it's not an issue with just the US.

I know if I was in a store and this anti-mask group rolled through I would try to strategically exit while maintaining social distance to get the fuck away from them, not follow them around with a camera (especially with the woman prone to assault)

It's not giving a dose and then waiting longer for the second dose. That's a separate debate.

What they want them to do is to start cutting the first dose in half, giving the second half later, and then the actual second dose even later or not at all.

There's no fundemental difference between his take regarding this subject and the people who say "Raffensperger shouldn't have recorded Trump because getting a call from the president is an honor".

When you refuse to admit the side you don't want to be right is right, you will do anything to justify your stance even if you have to contradict your own prior statements (I.e. It's a deep fake -> OK it's real but Raff shouldn't have recorded -> actually the president said nothing wrong in that call, all in less than a 12 hour time span)

And Corrik's obvious response will be " I don't do this, that's what you all do!", which is why there's no point in actually continuing the conversation.
