PA court has already ruled that the Democrat won the election, but the republican challenger is still contesting it anyway. Republican state senators refused to certify the winner today.

In case you needed another example of Republicans being shitbags.

This has always felt like the biggest loophole in the US system (that legislatures are the judges of their own returns). Feels like lifting up oneself by one's own bootstraps (the legislature judges the returns, but the returns empower the legislators).

Well, at least we don't have the problem England had for the Long Parliament, where Parliament kept on voting to extend its own term without further elections (ended up going for 20 years).

Disgusting: the EPA has finalized a rule to ban themselves from using any scientific research on public health that does not disclose its raw data (which can sometimes not be done for privacy reasons, and which has not been done for plenty of existing perfectly good science):

True or False: Democrats objected to certifying electoral college results in 2000 and 2004.

We already know the GOP will do that. Even if the Dems get the Senate majority they still don't have enough votes to stop filibusters or change the rules to prevent them.
You only need a majority to remove the filibuster.

True. I think Feinstein was literally begging a Senator to object in 2016 though.

It's dumb. It means nothing. Doesn't matter this year either.

A Senator from Ohio objected to Ohios count because she felt there was voter suppression that needed to be recognized. She had no actual intention of actually overturning the result, but forced through the process of a formal discussion about the Ohio votes

I know that technically doesn't include the year 1988 since it's 2021 now, but it would still be in the same portion of the election cycle as we are right now.

Not sure how much they want to play this up, but they could make a real filibuster out of it. 2 hours of debate for 50 states plus DC = 102 hours of debate. If they work 8 hours a day that's 13 days, plus all the time needed for the Senate to walk over to its chamber and back to the House, and to keep on reconvening the joint session. If they don't work on weekends, under that schedule, they won't finish by January 20 and I guess Pelosi becomes president.

i don't think ACAB means "all precincts are bad" either. it means that all cops/precincts are complicit in a bad system. like many slogans, it's an overly simplified phrase that you should take with a huge grain of salt.

the fact that the phrase is now moddable is utterly ridiculous but that's neither here nor there.

Literally just using the phrase in no context is bannable now.

Even making up fun ways to stick the phrase into other words also results in a ban.

Of course, could just be that those banned are the result of excuses being pushed by outside antagonistic sources, but I would never imply such a dastardly thing.

To be fair, that's not really a big surprise (not the fact it's bannable, that's dumb, but the fact that using it with no context triggers an offense) because using it with no context is very commonly linked with trolling.

Are they actually banning people for agreeing with the phrase? Thats horrendous. Policing in the US did not come out of the Peelite ideal of a police force (which, among other things, mandates that police be unarmed) like it did in other countries (this is why Northern Europe has unarmed police). It came out of, among other things, enforcing slavery. Which it still does via prison labour. How the hell is that still legal over there by the way?

The system itself is bad.
