But for real though the simplest explanation is that they made Sauron fight a war on multiple fronts

And if Mordor really is an allegory for WW2 Germany, accidentally or not, we see how that went

I'd think they just sabotaged Sauron's recruitment and armies. If Sauron took Minas Tirith, there's no last stand, and he and his armies wouldn't be distracted, likely leading to the capture of the hobbits in Mordor

Hey I can maybe buy that they werent INTENDED as allegory. This happened to me personally in college when I made a short movie that I didnt even realize was allegorical until someone pointed it out to me and then it was clear as day.

But come on.

also if you want the cliff's notes on Bombadil:
-He's just kinda a dude that has immense power but keeps to himself
-I don't think Tolkien himself even knew what his whole deal was
-The theory I like is that he's one of the Valar (who are one notch higher than Gandalf and Sauron on the kinda god hierarchy)
-In the books, he is met early on and gets the hobbits out of some scrapes in his forest, and gives them some stuff. He also completely no-sells the Ring, seeing through the invisibility and putting it on himself with no positive or negative effects.
-One of the ideas the Council had was to let him keep the Ring, and it was shot down not because he couldn't protect it, but because he would probably not understand why that was important, and lose it somewhere.
-I obviously like the dude but have to admit that leaving him out of the movies didn't change much.

To you I would describe him as the equivalent of a secret boss that has 0 relevance to the plot and looks like a joke, but could absolutely kick the ass of any character in the game if they wanted to

It was also stated that even if he did hold onto the ring, Sauron would still overrun the rest of the world outside of Bombadils small domain and Bombadil would most likely just remain within it and do nothing.

Tolkien was going for an old school mythological style with these stories. Some things just have no explanation. I mean even Elrond and Gandalf are just like, who knows, when it comes to Bombadil.

Tom Bombadil is one of the most fun characters in Battle for Middle Earth 2.

He doesnt actually attack, he just dances and swings around singing his own name like a Pokmon and everything around him gets thrown into the sky like Sauron swinging his giant mace in the first scene of the movie. Its incredible.

And yes there are plenty of other magical rings it could have been

Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky
Seven for the Dwarf lords in their halls of stone
Nine for mortal men doomed to die
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

The Three and some of the Seven are accounted for, Gandalf has one of the Three himself, but as far as Gandalf knew about the rest it could be any of them

Until he did more research

ummm ackshually Gandalf assumes it's just an unrelated magic ring imbued with power. There were many magical rings created throughout the years with various powers and abilities. The elves were always making magic shit back in the day. If he thought it was any of the 1/3/7/9 rings he would have been mega concerned because it's known the One Ring was designed for corrupting those things. He wasn't suspicious that Bilbo's Ring was related to that business at all until he noticed Bilbo's odd behaviour at the party and set off for research

I mean technically you could say this about anything, but in the lore its not just cuz, its specifically because God realized Saruman was no longer the white wizard and brought Gandalf back as the new white wizard to keep Sauron in check.

the wizards are basically minor/low level gods already, they just try to avoid using their full powers or meddling in the affairs of mortals as much as possible to avoid falling into temptation and being corrupted by their own power like Saruman.

I mean in commenting on the war against Morgoth, which makes the War of the Ring look like a tea party, someone (I think it was another Maia? or maybe the narrator) implied that all the immense suffering and death that came from that conflict was maybe a little justified because a lot of great stories and songs came out of it.

god more or less killed saruon at the end of the second age. Saruon pretended to be reformed, and gained influence in the human kingdom that's basically Atlantis. He eventually convinced them to try to go attack the elves in the west, and god just wrecked their entire civilization as punishment. (also turned the world into a sphere so that no one could get to the elves in the west again, even the other elves)

Saruon lost his physical form in the destruction, and spent most of the third age chilling out trying to regain his strength and build up another army. During the Hobbit, Gandalf kept disappearing because he went off to fight the Necromancer with the other wizards not knowing at the time it was actually Saruon trying to build up another army.

also I think there was some pretty direct divine intervention at the end of the first age in finally getting around to killing Morgoth, but I'm pretty rusty on the details.
