People always focus on the $600 check and ignore the unemployment additions that are WAY more than that.

At least this time it's "only" +$300 per week, not +$600.
But Dems are promising (ie, threatening) to push for more if they win control of the Senate. Ugh...I want them in power, but not this. Why are they so dead set on screwing over essential employees? If they think people need more money, do a larger stimulus check, don't dump so much into additional unemployment. It's a slap in the face to cashiers and such forced to work shit jobs and be exposed to COVID to earn less money than people sitting at home doing nothing.

The $75K income limit is also stupid. Way too low, in a lot of (ironically, blue) areas, cost of living is obscenely high and $75K is like barely middle class.

I agree. They really need to find a better balance. People that have to go to work are lucky to have a job, they should be getting more than anyone sitting at home. Period.

I tried looking it up, but when are we supposed to be getting this round of cash?

Also, when can we expect the 300 and 150 dollar amounts in the future? <_<

We're lucky to have jobs, but we have jobs that still represent an income stream. Full stop.

Most of the people that can't work right now got one $1200 check like 8 or 9 months ago. They need cash first. I'm certainly not going to turn down "free money" (and don't get me started on how far we're devaluing our currency right now) but I can still buy milk and bread. I'm working. It would be great to be rewarded a bit more for the risk I expose myself to every day. But there are others that literally can't work, or their work comes and goes at the whim of their state Governor. Those people should be first in line unless we want to see riots. That's just math.

People need to understand something. Way back during the creation of FDR's New Deal, the mostly racist Southern Dems in Congress told FDR that they didn't mind social programs as long as Black people didn't get any so this stuff is rooted in racism and people just do not want to believe that.

Example when Unemployment was created back then, they put in stipulations that said if you did certain types of jobs i.e. domestic work which meant people who cleaned the homes of wealthy or well-to-do folks, you didn't qualify for unemployment and if you were a migrant farm worker you didn't qualify for benefits and during that time in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, those types of low pay menial degrading jobs were being done by Black people, Now today those same jobs are being done by mostly illegal immigrants and if you ever visit the wine country or large farms, those people doing that work are not American because American's aren't doing that kind of work.

The only reason America doesn't have paid maternity leave, free college and healthcare is all rooted in racism and that much has been echoed by a certain political party and now in one of the most adverse times, we have politicians who have for a better part of 8 months or so, drag their feet in coming up with an agreement for another stimulus package meanwhile people have lost their homes etc especially restaurant workers so yeah this stuff is really sad.

$600 for some people won't cover their rent/mortgage but hey people voted for the likes of McConnell so deal with it.

I don't qualify either but that's fine by me because I'd rather see folks who could use the money get the money. My cousin works at a restaurant and she's been idled for months now because they only kept enough people to hand take out and she didn't make that cut so for someone like her, I am all for those people getting the help.

You all are bitching about Pelosi (I am not a big fan either), but the republicans didn't want any stimulus checks or unemployment benefit increases. Republicans always seem to be pushing for big corporate bailouts and protection for corporation to prevent lawsuits for putting workers in compromising situations during the pandemic.

Pelosi shouldn't be trying to frame it as a victory. She's giving up control of the narrative. Remember when Trump was impeached for completely legitimate reasons and the Republicans essentially "protested" for three months? We need that kind of enthusiasm for actual injustice. It works. The last four years proved that.

I distinctly recall months ago when talks for a 2nd round began, Republicans offered +$400 per week unemployment as a compromise (way too high, IMO) and Dems balked and demanded the full +$600 again.
Now we get a bill and it's +$300/week. lulz
At least this time, the Dems' incompetence helped America.

Also, for those upset there isn't more money coming... Sorry, but Congress didn't have room for that in the bill with all the stealth law changes to benefit multi-billion dollar conglomerates that will fuck us over forever:

The best part of this is it puts the kappa McConnell in a bad spot where it's nigh-impossible to come out as a winner. The worst part is either putting power in Pelosi's hands or having to say "Trump is right."
