These are the top ten most watched movies on the most watched streaming service in America.

Literally two Ron Howard movies and up top an action movie starring... Jennifer Garner... that no one has thought about since it came out in theaters awhile back. Guess people are just lazy and watch whatever Netflix is promoting on their front page. Which is embarrassing. What happened to being intellectually curious and seeking out new, cool, unique stuff?

We're doomed lmao!

for a while when we were kids, my brother would watch Little Nicky like 10 times a week and my parents eventually grew so disgusted with it that they threw it away.

You literally had a topic about how that movie sucked.

Also the idea that movies are the litmus test by which culture is considered advancing/regressing is lol. You're just clinging to an artform in decline

The tweet makes fun of Mank but I'm more interested in what the actual list presents. Maybe I should've just posted the pics. Anyway.

Movies are also the dominant (and best) artform so yeah.

Hasn't been either for decades, but whatever let's you retain the illusion of snobbery

Pretty sure movies are more popular and generate more revenue than music, theater, books, shows, etc. Definitely more pervasive in the cultural subconscious than the others for sure.

Using revenue as a metric for quality, so you're a MCU fan after all lol

Good movies make money. For example, undeniable cinema such as Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Maybe if video games were art.

Also WAP probably did more than movies because... we don't have movie theaters.

FUCK this sucks

That revenue standard is a weird one, especially when you touch on the reason it fails this year. Not saying movies aren't art but it's weird to acknowledge they mainly serve as a loss leader so that some middle man can upsell you soda while you watch it. And say that's why they're the most important art form

If you just watch/read/do whatever is most advertised to you then I don't think you are actually drawn to it, you're just more or less being peer pressured into it.

Plus, seeking out things that are not popular and finding genuine enjoyment out of them and rejecting milquetoast popular stuff is a verifiable cool personality trait.

Sure, but the point of the thread is that people aren't interested in anything and just eat whatever is put on their plate rather than grabbing literally anything else from the table. Why is this.

The movies in the list have the most broad appeal. That's about it.

Those people might and likely do watch other stuff...but it's all spread about and doesn't hit the top ten.

What do you think should be watched instead?
