My apartment is on the way to his work and is about 2 minutes from the workplace, like they directly drive by it. Mainly stopping by 2-3 times to play with the kitty for a few minutes, scoop the litter once. Everything is automated just dont want the kitty feeling totally abandoned and getting possible anxiety.

Theyd of course do it for free but Im thinking of just giving them $50? Or is that too low?

$50 is pretty good, I used to give my dad $20 to let my dog out and give him food when I was working late (before I started working from home).

I was thinking $20, but you said 2-3 times, so $50 sounds good too.

is this normal?

i would just pay my friend to do it... and i wouldn't expect a friend of mine to pay me either, esp if its on the way to my actual workplace

like whats the point

not to be that guy but surely friends/family would just do it? if you're close of course

I would argue nice chocolates or something?

The idea that you would also do similar things for them if the need arises, should be payment enough. You do not want to tally up favours for friends and family.

Honestly you could probably just buy the pizza and drinks next time you hang out and be fine. unless the cat is an asshole.

$50 is fine. I too would do it for free so any amount you offer I'd just accept if that makes you feel better.

If it's a friend, you don't give them any money, you take them out to dinner or get them a small gift. The only time you might pay them is if you were covering the cost of some expense, but it doesn't sound like there is one here.
