I am having a great time with it. About fifteen hours into it now.

Nice, I just started my first Yakuza game yesterday. I got yakuza 6 for like $15 so I thought why not. It's pretty decent so far.

Yes. Yes it is. I'm like 30 hours in and just started really getting the story going. There's a ton of new things to do.

Yakuza 7 is its own thing, and you really don't need to play the others. There are some character nods here and there, but you're not missing much from just playing Yakuza 7.

It was pretty great although I do have some small nitpicks. All the drops from every sujimon are just crafting materials and you can just buy all the droppable crafting mats for cheap at the park. The money they give is also pitiful and the xp they give is weak compared to farming invested vagabonds or the arena so it basically boils down to being pointless to fight almost anything.

Buffs/debuffs don't do nearly enough for the player to warrant using over just using the MP on damaging abilities for at least the vast majority of the game. Idol is too OP not to use. AoE charm and AoE full heal is busted.

Theres nothing for getting all the part time hero stars. It was so tedious and you get nothing for that last bit.

Defense balancing is also a bit janky before you get high level. Had a lot of fights where I'd take like 5-6 damage a hit and then the next slightly harder fight I'll take 300 in one hit and insta die. After you get 500+ hp on everyone it's not as big a deal though.

Also was a bit annoyed that as far as I can tell, theres no way to know if a weapon is upgradeable or not unless you own the weapon so for some of those super expensive weapons it's hard to know if it's worth it. A little icon or something would have been nice.

And then finally the resolution of the games story. Obvious ending spoilers. You don't actually accomplish anything really. Nobody does. The yakuza reform under a new name, the boss that you wanted to help dies, his son that you wanted to see the error of his ways so he could have a better future does...and then dies immediately making that pointless. As a governor of tokyo, he was probably gonna do a better job than whoever replaces him so really everybody just loses. A lot happens but where you end up isn't any better than where you came from.

Still, those things are pretty minor. The game was awesome. I did every substory and maxed out part time hero and had a blast with the game.

I like it, but not as much as I liked 0 or the Kiwami's. Most of it comes down to the battle system (I liked the brawler style combat over turn based), and part of it is that the mini-games are kind of lacking, specifically the business management one. I just don't like it as much as property management or Hostess club management from the other games.

Still, I have over 75 hours into it already when I am only halfway through the story so I can't complain THAT much...

I loved the business management. Easy three mil every time I play now.

I have put 30+ hours into this game in the past week. I don't usually put that much time into games, especially in that short of time.

What an incredible experience.

I love the Yakuza games, I have since the ps2 era...but I never end up finishing them because I get bogged down in the side quests and just run out of steam at some point. I think the first and maybe the second one on ps2 were the only ones I actually finished.

I decided to jump in on Like A Dragon because it's a soft reboot and they went the JRPG path. I'm getting it for Christmas.

I need to play it... I got it at launch but was super hooked on Cold War, then I got Immortals and I am all about that now.

Just did that part last night, was the first time in the game I actually felt like there was some strategy in the battle system. First time I had died and it felt like I did something wrong other then fighting someone when I wasn't a high enough level.

Plus I marked out when Kiryu showed up later in the chapter.
