The better movie was..

Both of these movies came out at the SAME TIME practically in 1998..it was basically the same movie too. a comet is about to hit earth and its about a bunch of people who have to save earth..either astronauts or a rag tag drilling team..

Both were panned by critics but both earned decent amount of money..though one was the runaway winner at the box office and was deemed the more entertaining film..

But which do you think was the better film?

Armageddon is in the Criterion Collection, so it must be better.

  1. you'd never break an asteroid up to make thousands of smaller asteroids like buckshot.
  2. you'd never train miners to be astronauts when you can train astronauts to drill.
  3. Liv Tyler was so hot back then.

I have almost completely forgotten all about Deep Impact. It wasn't as entertaining. The thing that made Armageddon interesting was the stupid cast who never should've been anywhere near a space ship.

If they believed it would make the pieces small enough to be destroyed before reaching the planet they might. I really doubt it would be that simple though. I feel like at best it would just make lots of tiny bit...and then 1 or 2 huge chunks still and they'd have no way of dealing with them.

Not totally sure of this one either. I think at most they would hire the main guy as supervisor (maybe 1 more) and the rest of the crew would be astronauts. Its not like there's specific training to go out to space, you just need to be great physical condition.

Something anyone can agree on I'd hope!

Armageddon is one of my favorite movies and Im not ashamed to say it
great cast
great if entirely unrealistic story of a bunch of everymans out to save the planet
great special effects
rocking soundtrack

Deep Impact is a more traditional drama, not a great comparison aside from the premise

Deep Impact was slightly - very slightly - more realistic, in that it attempted to show how society might deal with such an upcoming event (assuming it didn't instantly begin to devolve into chaos 5 minutes after the announcement was made).

Can't remember if I ever saw Deep Impact, but what I saw of Armageddon wasn't great.

tbh, that did feel implausible.

Never even knew about Deep Impact. We either had the VHS for Armageddon, and I liked it as a kid. I liked almost every movie I watched back then though.

I think that is why I enjoyed Deep Impact more and to some degree how the movie felt darker compared to Armageddon.
