My boss gave me a slight slap on the wrist then laughed it off.

I sell timeshare lease packages (Then rentals, not ownership)

Anyways, I was on my 4th tour of the day all 3 before me have used the tried and true excuse of "We're buying a house so we can't buy anything today".

So my 4th table used the same excuse causing me to snap. I said,

"Oh really? That's amazing. See that family there? *points* They're buying a house too."
"That family over there? *points* Also buying a house."
"That family walking out? *points* Yup. Buying a house"
"Now tell me Mr and Mrs 547 credit score, explain how you're buying a house after you let us run your credit in detail please"

They of course got super pissed and complained. Bastards...

I was getting salty I was 4 shots in and all had been awful. I'm having a great month sales wise but still. It gets me cranky.

Also, if you don't want to buy because you're not interested. It's fine. I get it. It's not for everyone. Just have the balls to say you don't want it instead of coming up with a bullshit excuse as to why you can't buy. Just be honest. I don't know why that's so hard for them.

Because you'll drag them into two more meetings for extra rewards and peer pressure them into a timeshare, or at least that's what they expect as every timeshare does it.

it's hard for most people dog you know that. i'm a straight-shooter (unless it comes to hurting my friends' feelings) so I'm with you, but you can't honestly tell me it's a surprise to hear people skirt their real feelings in a scenario like this

Besides my current employer, I've worked at Hilton, Marriot, Sheraton, and Wyndham. None of them do that. Every resort is:

1) Sales Rep.
2) Takeover/Manager (Same guy just called either a manager or takeover depending on the resort)
3) Exit Program (Me)

There is never a secondary meeting.

Because most sales people are going to keep bugging you unless you give a concrete reason like that. Even then they'll still probably try a bit more.

It was a stupid excuse, though, tbh.

I think I've mentioned this before on GameFAQs but the secret to getting out of a timeshare presentation is to seriously just say "I have no interest in this whatsoever" or "I can't afford this". We can't fix lack of need/desire or broke.

It's all the dumb shit excuses that we've heard 1,000 times before that we can fire back on that keep you there for a prolonged amount of time.

I only did one timeshare meeting thing in Vegas for tickets and credit, and I just told em I couldn't afford it at the price offered, or any price they could reasonably offer. They didn't just let me go, of course. In addition to trying to give me deals that I told them in advance I'd shoot down (which I went on to do) they did bring in a manager to try to convince me I could afford it lmao. I even gave them a number (it was like an order of magnitude lower than their first offer, so obviously a no go)

I don't blame people for making up a reason. It probably is faster

Wyndham's properties are beautiful. But their program is dogshit. Their points don't hold much weight to get into their best resort. Buy 325,000 points for $19,000 and then find out that can only get you 3 days, if you're lucky, at Bonnet Creek (Their resort at Disney. Fucking amazing resort that damn near sells itself)

If you want to complain about a sales rep. being an ass to you on presentation NEVER do it to the managers on the floor. The mentality is always "Didn't buy anything? Fuck off while we laugh once you walk out". You're just wasting your breath.

It's a skill. Timeshare sales is a revolving door because so many people go in thinking they'll strike it rich. Find the guy that's been there over a year and that's the guy you have to worry about. Are we good? The vets are. And we make a killing working 35 hours a week while you bust your back 40+ hours for a pittance.

At my resort, they have a squad of drop dead attractive girls that book you for a presentation when you check into your unit. Those girls are the real predatory sharks that are almost awe inspiring.

I'm just pissed because my gf won't do another one for free stuff after that first time. I would do it again alone though for tickets and credit

Check into resorts towards the end of the month.

All marketing people at resorts (people who book you for tours) have a comp. plan where they get a set commission for each tour they book. At the end of the month, they get bonuses for certain goals on how many tours they book. At the end of the month when they're trying to max out on bonus they start offering, at my resort, $200 Amex gift cards, two round trip airline tickets, and free weeks at resort.

Sucks for us when we get a tour at the end of the month and no shit their gift are 1 week at any of our resorts, a $200 amex, and round trip airline tickets. Hell, why buy anything when you're already set for your next vacation?

Well the meeting was two hours and they spent over an hour trying to get me to sign up. They basically put me in the center of a circle and tried to browbeat me into doing it. It was mad funny plus I got to insult them with impunity. I think I made the guy who brought me look really bad but IDC

they definitely thought I bought into it cuz I volunteered to speak about my hardships and gave a great bullshit speech

Man I should look into more of these things. Cults are nuts. Weird tangent, I guess timeshare salesman remind me of cultists (no offense tc it's just a generalization)

Are you absolutely positive it wasn't a Westgate resort? They do that. Protip, when they announce a family buying, there is a 75% chance it's false and it's an attempt to get other families on presentation into the "buying mood".

Lol we did ours on the last weekend and they did throw in free days, but not free flights. It was June, though, so close to peak traffic I would imagine

I've worked at two Wyndham resorts in Florida and neither of them do that. But all the Westgate resorts in Florida do exactly what you've described.

It's my opinion that it's the performance aspect of timeshare sales that resort to shit from reps. It's a very cut throat industry. You could be king big dick rep for months and months in a row. Two bad/off months? Fired for performance.

When I first started I was told "The shy salesman has skinny kids". You can't make money unless you sell. And unfortunately being chill doesn't get you sales. Saying smartass comments and being comfortable in uncomfortable situations you create are what get people to buy.

So do you really try to be a dick to get people to be abusive to you? Because I was def picking up on that vibe but I'm not great at social cues (which I guess makes me a bad mark lmao)
