Def way cheaper but I find their selection frustrating

often times I think its worth going to the normal grocery store just so that its guaranteed to have the things I want

I agree, it's a minor inconvenience for me because their instant oatmeal is slightly higher calorie than wegmans, and they don't have canadian bacon. I'll manage, money is tight right now

Big fan of Aldi. They may not have everything you're looking for on a given visit, but what they have is pretty damn good and reasonably priced.

This comment will reveal that Im CE old, but whatever. I remember in the mid 90s in the Milwaukee area Aldi used to be crap. My parents would come back from there and the stuff would be second rate, especially their Little Debbie like products.

I now live in the U.K. and 25 years later its my favourite grocery store. Im not sure if its the change in country, but the quality of food is now much better.

I started going to Aldi a couple years or so ago when a Kroger in a convenient location for me closed down. Aldi was just a bit further down the road, but I didn't even know what Aldi was even though I had passed by it so many times (did a google map search for grocery stores in the area). Great thing that Kroger closed down because Aldi is sooooooo much better. Better prices, higher quality, and no need to get a membership card. I'm a huge fan.

Here are some prices that I've encountered that stood out to me:
A dozen eggs: 65 cents
A gallon of milk: ~$1.35
Avocados: ~40 cents each
Ground beef (~30% fat): $1.79 per lb (was on a wednesday)

Of course, prices can depend on location and timing.

Yeah, I've made a topic before praising many aldi things. I really like their Carolina BBQ sauce (when it's in season). Their kaukauna off brand alike is solid. Sells for 2.50 when the kaukauna brand at the other grocery store is like 5 dollars lol. I usually just make a list of things I can solely get at aldi that I'm really happy getting there. It also helps that they're pretty close to a big grocery store like 5 minutes away. So I know whatever I want to get cheaper I can just ignore at the big grocery store and get at Aldi. Sadly in this Covid time I try to minimize my experience with the public.

Things I buy at Aldi that I love:

Carolina BBQ sauce
Cheeses
Guacamole
PEANUTS (SHIT IS A POUND OF HONEY ROASTED PEANUTS FOR ONE FUCKING FIFTY YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN GOD DAMNED PEANUT BUTTER WITH THIS SHIT I HAVE 10 OF THEM I LOVE PEANUTS)
Tzatziki sauce
Their chickenless bbq patties
Milk
Eggs
Tostadas
Flour burrito sized tortillas
BEANS
Ghee
Butter
Coconut oil
That
This
Those boxes are 1 dollar or less (I like the first two comes with rice and a sauce you add to your chicken and you done easy peasy. You can also buy their jarred sauces so you don't have to rely on a box.)
Some of the reggano preprepped pasta like parmesean angel hair pasta (pastaroni knock offs) are pretty damn good and for 80 cents.
Yogurt
A variety of their canned goods.
Diced potato boxes hot damn do I love these, sadly seasonal? I rarely see these guys but I buy 10 of them when I can.

They're a solid place and once you can figure it out they make a good companion to big grocery stores.

I think what makes them most interesting is their weekly restocking where they'll get random things and put them in like the second or third isle. There will be some random ass stuff on sale and usually for cheap. I got a bike stand from them for 20 bucks? An absolute steal for the minor bike maintenance I occasionally do. So yeah worth a look to check out their paper ads once a week or once a month because they post them ahead of time.

That honestly doesn't help to me. So, at my local walmart, every single cheese is kept in a chilled bunker of some kind. Except Velveeta. WHY DOESN'T IT NEED TO BE KEPT COLD?!

Kinda shocked Aldi's is known for their cheapness here. In Orange County where there are a huge abundance of Korean grocery stores, Aldi's are pretty empty because they're not really the cheapest grocery stores around. But somehow the significantly more expensive Albertson's near me is doing alright even though no Asian people go there

My wife and I have been doing 90% of our grocery shopping at Aldi for like 5 years now. Whatever we can't find there we get at the Walmart Neighborhood Market near our house.

It's great, the Aldi just got a total remodel like a year ago and it feels like a much more premium shopping experience but the prices didn't go up

All the specialty cheeses are really good. The prepackaged southwestern salad is my favorite lunch. Avoid the Aldi pringles, they are disgusting.

I live in a very pro-Trump area, so I deal with lots of assholes.
