Oh, I'm not anywhere close to posting. Everything's going to need rewrites, and I probably want eyes on it first before releasing into the wild. Plus, if I want to maintain a consistent release schedule, I almost feel like I want to write the whole thing first. (Oh man, that's a tall order.)

I see you're up to 114k now. I just finished drafting my first trial and I think I'm at 68. I wonder how long all of that will be after the rewrite. (I definitely need more character development, especially so my killer doesn't seem too obvious. If I wrote a lot of details about you, you're either the victim or the killer.) I am, incidentally, very proud atm of how this first case turned out despite the fact that I mostly made it up as I went. Hopefully I don't see something that changes my mind later...and I can figure out what the next case is about. I have some vague notions about future cases, but not the upcoming saga.

Does anyone know a colorless, tasteless poison that someone could put in a drink (preferably water) that would be fast-acting and lethal? Outside of maybe arsenic, which I have a few problems with, I'm not finding anything with cursory web searches, and understandably that information is not as easy to find as some other things would be. Figured I'd ask at a place where people would understand why I'm asking.

I mean, I might just invent one, but I'd prefer to use something that exists.

Working on Soft Reset. Just rewrote a bunch of a later class trial to fit with my change to an earlier chapter.

(Writing out of order means Chapter 1 might not come for months.)

Finished the majority of trial 2. It's far less comprehensive an incident than the first trial. I'll need to take some time to invent something far more imaginative for the next one.

With the new month, I've decided I should go back for rewrites on the prologue and as much of chapter 1 as I can get through. Considering that was 66k on the first draft, and some stuff needs to be expanded on, dunno if I'll get through all of that in a month, but I've written far more for NaNo. Anyway, the hope is that I can recruit some feedback from a beta reader after this pass. If anyone's interested, let me know.

This is stupid, but I took my sister (who knows nothing about dorky weeb games), explained the premise of Danganronpa to her, and had her guess everyone's Ultimate skill and whether they're a victim, murderer, survivor, or mastermind based on a sprite I took from the wiki.

Makoto: Clearly likes laughing at people. Ultimate Closeted Bully + Victim
Aoi: They made a point to have her cleavage out. Ultimate Strong Lady + Survivor or Mastermind
Byakuya: I hate this man. Ultimate Dude Who Thinks Hes Better than Everyone Else and Thinks He Has a Unique Dark Sense of Humor + Survivor
Celeste: Shes too obviously evil to be a murderer. Ultimate Knife Thrower + Victim
Chihiro: She seems innocent. Ultimate Shapeshifter + Victim
Hifumi: Why does he have a cat face. Ultimate Jumping Man + Survivor
Junko: Again with her cleavage out. She lures you in and kills you, shes persuasive. Ultimate Black Widow + Murderer

Sakura: He seems at peace, this is not a 16 year-old. Talk about body standards. His spirit animal is the tiger. He dies saving someone else. Ultimate Tiger + Victim
Sayaka: Oh my god shes so suspicious. She might be the mastermind. Shes definitely really powerful. She was wronged early in childhood and never recovered. Ultimate Telekinesis + Murderer or Mastermind
Toko: She seems intelligent only because she has braids and glasses. She has a relationship with the rude guy from earlier, theyre perfect for each other. Ultimate Snob + Survivor
Hiro: The most normal weve seen so far. Hes the main character. Hes got two coats on, what a fashion statement. He seems chill. Ultimate Friend + Murderer

Hajime: This person is gay. They get the job done but theyre aggressive. Hes an Aeries. Ultimate Group Organizer + Survivor
Akane: Its just like, what is this? Lets just make a female character and give her huge boobs and a sack of a shirt to wear and not even do her hair, this is trash. Ultimate Teen Pregnancy + Victim
Twogami: Not a human. He reminds me of a globby green cartoon caterpillar or something. I dont like him. Hes going to die, but hell leave a legacy behind or something. Ultimate Artist + Victim

Angie: This is my favorite so far. She seems interesting, her stomach is exposed but she doesnt have ridiculous boobs. Not that huge boobs are ridiculous. Shes chill. She just wants to go be in nature. Ultimate Hippie + Survivor
Gonta: Hes such a dork. Is that a container you store lizards in? Hes going to give you a lot of facts about reptiles. Ultimate Nerd + Victim
Himiko: Too obvious to be a magician. Obviously a spooky girl. Ultimate Spellcaster + Survivor
Keebo: Absolutely a murderer, he had bad stuff happen to him in his childhood. Hes smart and built himself a robot suit that has special powers. Ultimate Engineer + Murderer
Kaito: I dont know, hes fine. Hes connected to outer space. Ultimate Friend with his whole own life that you dont even know about + Murderer
Kirumi: Shes secretive. Ultimate I cant tell + Victim
Kokichi: I hope he gets murdered. This is such annoying energy. Ultimate Gossip + Victim

Maki: She uses her hair as a weapon. She reminds me of a character from a fighting game who leans on her hair and kicks, do you know what Im talking about? She has a baby voice. She reminds me of Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter. Ultimate Strangler + Murderer
Miu: Shes interesting. I feel like she sings in a punk rock band and has very sharp nails. Her mood changes very easily. Ultimate Performer + Survivor
Rantaro: His superpower is that hes on good terms with everybody. Ultimate Shy Guy + Murderer
Ryoma: This baby looks like hes had a tough life. Hes smoking a cigarette. Is he related to the evil sisters? He knows how everyone will die. Ultimate Angel of Death + Survivor
Shuichi: Interesting. He seems interesting to me. Hes ready to sprint away but is also dark and moody. Hes fast on his feet. Ultimate Sprinter + Survivor
Tenko: She doesnt think before she speaks. Has a lot of friends, but has a lot of drama. Ultimate Victim in the sense that everything is always happening to her in her mind + Victim
Tsumugi: She seems more like a teacher. Shes either a teacher or she works for the CIA. Ultimate Evil Librarian + Murderer

It's pretty funny how off she is on 2 but she absolutely nails the mahiro/hiyoko dynamic (unless that's obvious from whatever you showed her) and of course mikan is the murdererest murderer who's ever murdered

I didn't tell her anything about the series beyond a basic explanation of the premise. All of her answers were her own. I forgot about the psychic Sayaka connection, but I did enjoy her nailing Mahiru/Hiyoko, even if she mistook Hiyoko for Junko's little sister.

Yeah, I am. I plan to finish everything. The problem is that investigations and trials take ten times longer to write than normal life because you have to plot out every single minor detail in advance, then repeatedly go through things and make sure all of the points and details line up perfectly, or else the mystery doesn't make sense anymore.

Finally finished v3 after two chapters worth of playing today! Some notes here, and if anyone wants some more fresh takes on the game from 2021, ask away.

I called everyone who would be alive in the last case bar Himiko after the first trial, although I thought Maki would go in chapter 5 at a few stages. I thought Himiko was gonna die in chapter 2, and then chapter 3, but she seemed pretty safe after that because there were too many characters with death flags left alive for them to kill her, honestly. I thought Keebo and Tsumugi were safe for the same reasons (they were my first calls for survivors), and I actually thought Miu would survive the whole game, because exposed tits were the biggest survival flag of all in the previous games.

Kaede is the most likable individual character in the entire series. I know that's what they're going for and she's possibly the most blatant waifu bait, but she still manages to make me smile.

There were 0 awful and stupid as fuck cases in the entire game! As much as I love DR2, there's a couple of cases that are just bad.

The lie mechanic was great, and I wish they'd used it a bit more, but I think once a case isn't a bad amount.

The Monokubs deserved to die in even more painful and visceral ways than they did. They single-handedly nearly ruined 3-1 and I actually cheered when Monokid died.

I would join a cult for Angie.

Did you know that Angie is one of the most hated characters in the whole game? People hate the Atua thing (I think it's because they don't understand that it's an actual real part of her character that informs the rest of her personality), and that she wants to live in the school forever (because they... uh... don't want the story to have an antagonist who isn't a big evil supervillain i guess).

How did the Monokubs ruin 3-1? Tampering with the evidence?

Holy crap, really? Don't get me wrong, she's not incredibly likable, but she's entertaining and creepy as hell, and semi-intentionally starting a cult in a Danganronpa game is the perfect level of wackiness for the series. Also, she has a ton of yellow in her character design. Everything needs more yellow.

They just wouldn't stop bloody talking/existed. They popped up every few minutes, taking a few seconds when doing so and leaving, had a bunch of dialogue which wasn't funny and had no impact on the story half the time, and just overall took me out of any sense of tension or intrigue because my first thought was how I hoped to god they would all die. It felt like they talked more than most of the human characters in the first case. Monomi in DR2 was bad enough, and then they turned around and made an extra five of them. At least they killed them all twice. I was, however, rooting for Monodam to go on a killing spree, and I'm disappointed he never finished the job with Monophanie and Monotaro.

Yeah Angie is literally almost at the bottom in every poll. People prefer Himiko to her. It's ridiculous. Angie is by far the most underrated character in the whole series lmao. I have tried to write a post about this multiple times but gotten sidetracked every time because it is a lot of words

How do you feel about the fact that every character was actually fictional in-universe? I didn't like that at first and I still don't really like it but with that context I am able to accept the game for what it is.

I actually don't mind it too much. Once again, it's the right level of wacky and stupid for the series, it doesn't detract from anything too much for me, makes some nice meta-messages and it meant they could do a bit more with the last case. I really want to play the missing 49 Danganronpas now, too.

And yeah, Angie being hated is ridiculous. v3 has the strongest cast, but there's so many nothing or mediocre characters in the series in general that she should never be near the bottom. As long as she's not ranked worse than Hifumi and Teruteru, I wouldn't be angry, but I'm not sure how popular they are particularly in Japan.

As a pantser, I found the trials the most fun, exhilarating part to write. I've drafted two trials so far, and they represent the two days where I've output the highest volume of material since I started this project. (First trial might have been two days. It's much longer than the second.)

Now, we'll see how well they hold up when I go back and edit. Pantsing a mystery is a dubious project, so I'm hoping that there won't be too much I need to tailor to maintain the mystery, provoke intrigue, and not spill the beans along the way.

Went on a total bender today. Found out what I wanted from my third case, even if it felt like I rushed into it rather than doing more character development. I had two ideas for how I wanted this trial to go, but it's case #3, sooo....m-m-m-m-m-m-multideath!
