So after reading Anagram and Suprak's topics I'm wondering if anyone else thought fat Byakuya wasn't really Byakuya? When I played through the game I thought the game really wanted me to think it was Byakuya but I figured it was probably the Ultimate Imposter or something similar to that. So it wasn't a big shock when it was revealed who he really was for me. It was more like well yeah that was obvious!

I just went, "Um, I guess we have fat Byakuya now. I don't know why, but since he clearly knows what's going on, I'm going to trust this is actually him."

Byakuya is not an irredeemable piece of garbage. He certainly came into the first game with a mentality apart from everyone else, which was completely within his character and his backstory, but he cast that aside after the fourth trial and worked with the group. It's not farfetched to think he could have made further character growth by the time the second game starts. And, in fact, at the very end, we see that he has -- even if he's still very much the same person.

The point of the phrase irredeemable is that it doesn't matter how they try and turn it around.

None of Byakuya's actions after chapter 2 matter to me in the slightest.

But yes, I do admit they could have tried to pretend Byakuya wasn't human trash.

I just played a fangame demo named Danganronpa Dead End. It was okay.

The irony of being unable to stand Suprak shit taking best boy Fuyuhiko even though that literally the point of his character and my opinion at this point in the game was literally identical.

I really enjoy how he thought Mahiru would be important and have her camera come up a lot. I cant wait for his reaction to Sonia and Akane being endgame characters who do nothing the entire time.

After taking a break, I finally went back and finished ITMLFY last night. When I get in the mood to read again, I'll probably start on Anagram's.

Correction, I just read all of Anagram's. Other than that I sometimes have some trouble identifying the speaker due to pronoun use/non-use, it's really well done. Although maybe I should hold judgement until the first case fully resolves itself.

Random thought experiment. Theres a lot of complaints with the DR2 surviving cast and for good reason. Akane and Kazuichi seem like such nothing characters. In fact, Fuyuhiko was supposed to die instead of Hiyoko in Case 3, which would have made 3 nothing characters. Who would you rather replace them?

Didn't know Fuyuhiko was supposed to die. Figured he was an obvious survivor after Case 2.

Obviously would have rathered had Gundham survive. Same with Ibuki. Those two stand out for me. I'd honestly even rather have Nekomara survive over Akane or Soda lol

Fuyuhiko was supposed to die in case 3, but they realized at the last second that that would make Peko's sacrifice meaningless, so they changed it to Hiyoko, which is why her death comes out of nowhere, isn't explained very well, and has no real meaning.

Hajime and Fuyuhiko are good survivors. Kazuichi is fine, he serves a purpose as the normal guy and as the technology guy for the latter half. Sonia's job is to be a red herring spy by acting suspicious in chapter 5, but otherwise she does nothing of value. Akane does nothing ever. If you're going to replace someone, you replace one of those two. Personally, I'd probably replace one of them with Hiyoko.

My answer would be: basically anyone?

I like Akane more than I think I have a right to, and I admit that she isn't the most satisfying cast member to have left at the end. But neither is Sonia or Kazuichi. And even if he has an important arc, I simply don't like Fuyuhiko.

I stand by the idea that Hiyoko could have been interesting if she'd had a complete character arc where she learns to be a better person, which seems like the path they were going with before she died. As it stands, her big moment happens after she's already dead and they find her picture. That could've been interesting in itself, where she learns what she really looks like.

We kinda got that arc with Himiko in V3 and while I personally like Himiko I know she's not exactly popular either.

That's true. I just wish Kaz had more to him than a game-long joke about being a simp to Sonia.

Sonia's good! Her role is to be likable and also to provide empathy to the cast. She does it well.

I'm fine with Hiyoko replacing Akane, with Akane dying in Case 3. It would be interesting having Nekomaru coming back in Case 4, but Akane is now dead.

Akane dying in case 3 has the same problem as Fuyuhiko, where it makes Nekomaru's sacrifice pointless. And there wasn't a point where they could kill her off after that, so she was pretty much guaranteed to survive after that happened.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. I guess you could just let Hiyoko live and not have a double kill, but I suppose as things stand, this is how it would have to go.

Unlike V3 where moving the deaths around can have a lot of interesting consequences and domino effects, 2 is kind of locked in my mind.
