I don't have animus for everyone who voted for Trump, but so many of them refuse to deviate from the Republican party that so readily supported him in his crimes and divisiveness. I don't think there's any good reason to extend an olive branch to the Republican party that is going to push another excrement candidate in four years. If they do push someone like Nikki Haley, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton or, perhaps worst of all, Ted Cruz, we need the Democratic party to dig in hard. Weasels like Shapiro only contribute to the rancor and divisiveness as Andrew Neil exposed with minimal effort.

Trump going away doesn't change the fact that over 70 millions Americans voted for him. That all those people looked at the last 4 years and said we need more of that. They showed what they really wanted and what they were willing to ignore to make it happen.

I would love if they "woke up" and realized what a terrible mistake they made then took steps to insure it never happened again. Somehow, I don't see that happening.

Trump's brand of politics, of unashamed bigotry and disregard for the law has not been rejected. More republicans voted for Trump than any other candidate before. This is not over. This is not the time to "forget our differences and go back to how it was." This is the time to prepare, to stop assuming common sense and decency will prevail and vote laws to protect American democracy. Next time a Trump rises, there needs to be a way to stop him that does not depend on a political side deciding to put country before party.

The Republican voting map for senate and house wins and gains with minorities should actually scare a lot of Democrats.

The entire Republican platform literally just trolling on the internet. "Owning the libs". They've taken conservatism and opposition party to the extreme. They don't even have goals anymore, except stopping Democrats from legislating.

Before Trump, there were MRAs, pick up artists and Gamergate dipshits. There were people getting in trouble for burning effigies of Obama, there were people demanding to see his birth certificate and insinuating that he was a terrorist or a Muslim agitator because of his middle name (Trump did spearhead the latter two dumbass conspiracy theories, but it ran rampant through the more extremist Republican circles even before he was the head of the party).

Conservatives have been a cancer to basic political civility before the Trump administration, and they'll continue to be a cancer to basic political civility now that Dipshit Supreme has been thrown out on his ass. Qanon will probably keep running rampant and radicalising stupid racists, and there'll be other bastions of intolerance and racism in the party going forward. Just like there has been for decades beforehand.
