I got new audiophile headphones recently and I don't listen to much music/artists except for Taylor Swift but I want to start listening to a fuck ton of other ongs and artists. Is spotify premium worth it for $9.99/month?

It's $120 a year for ad free music that you can download at lossless quality.

I don't even listen to music that much and I've been paying for it for over 6 years now

You do need to keep paying or it'll delete your downloads but it'll keep them in a "Liked Songs" list that you can redownload once you start paying again

You don't own any music, you do need to stay subbed to keep accessing the songs you download for offline play.

I have it and don't regret paying for it. I used to buy all my music up until a year ago and then made the switch.

This.

No ads, no being forced into listening to your music on shuffle (which is shitty TBH), and access to offline music... Well worth the $10 imo.

Every Monday it makes a new playlist for you of stuff it thinks you might like from artists you regularly listen to. Ive discovered SO many bands, songs, etc over the years because of that.

if you wanna go full audiophile, go with Tidal. The Hi-Fi plan is more expensive than spotify though (obviously)
But Spotify is alot better with discovering new music
But to answer your question; ye Spotify is easily worth paying for

https://www.whathifi.com/us/features/tidal-vs-spotify-which-is-better

"Both Spotify Premium and Tidal Premium offer streaming at a data rate of 320kbps (CD quality). That said, we found that Tidal streams offered a more spacious soundstage and sounded that little bit more engaging.
Tidal also offers the option to listen to tracks in better-than-CD-quality. The audiophile-friendly Tidal Hi-Fi plan grants access to over 25,000 Tidal Master tracks (such as Fleetwood Macs remastered Tusk) in the form of hi-res MQA streams.
You can identify Tidal Masters by the tiny little "M" icon next the title. They deliver guaranteed master-quality recording directly from the master source, thus providing the audio experience that the artist originally intended.
Until fairly recently, Tidal Masters were only available via the service's desktop app but Masters are now available on all Android smartphones."

Its not even an opinion. its better for audiophiles
Not to mention Tidal pays the artists significantly more

Can you set up stations like in a pandora type system? I find I always end up rotating around the same bunch of artists and I like being able to put something I like into pandora and finding similar stuff.

Though I guess I could just do that in pandora and then go find them in spotify

This is true, but I still find myself going back to Pandora to find new music, and then returning to Spotify to find the artist there. For whatever reason its algorithm seems to have better luck finding stuff I like.

something they added in the last year or so was daily mixes. I find those do a great job of taking my wide variety of music, grouping it together and doing a good mix of songs it knows i like and songs similar to that.

They do of course have your standard make a playlist based on this artist/song/album or even based on another playlist. Though i would agree with what others have said, I don't feel it gives me new music as well as pandora did. But all the other features it has over pandora is why i stopped using pandora for spotify.

In those cases, I would usually just use a fake name and sign up for my 47th Columbia House membership and get my 12 free CDs for $1 and then never fulfill my membership obligation.

You'd think after they sent the same address seven "new membership" packages, they'd see Harry P. Ness at the same address and say "Nah, not this time", but nope.

Desktop app is fucking garbage and freezes for me at least once a day but I can find 95% of what I'm looking for and it beats trying to find downloads nowadays with every website I frequented being shut down or inactive. Daily Mixes feel really lazy, song radio is really lazy. If you know what you're looking for then Spotify is just fine, if you're looking to discover and do some digging and get some really good recommendations I've found Amazon Prime and Pandora and Last.fm (years ago, don't know if that's still a thing) do a much better job at actually finding stuff and me enjoying it.
