In formal writing, it's two spaces. For everything else, it's one.

One space after sentences, always using the oxford comma, and 1.5x spacing on word documents.

It is one space. It used to be two because the universe was much smaller, but since space is expanding, one space can now do the work that two once did. We might live to see a generation of kids grow up to use just half a space.

This. No strong opinions about it, just muscle memory. When I make a post here it always autocorrects from 2 to 1 anyway.

I was also taught to use two in school. But I haven't done that since I wrote my last paper lol.

I learned to do it with 2 from my mom. I don't even know if my school taught me to do it with 2, I just remember my mom having me learn it that way. It became a habit that I never learned any different. Unsure why it truly became one though, even reading all these posts. Most explanations have sounded like jokes (and probably are jokes).

The reason it was ever two had to do with the mechanics of a typewriter, mechanics that don't apply to computers.
