Ok I am legit more excited than I should be.

As the worst tv series ending of all time, this could be a great redemption.

I actually finished it a few days ago for the first time
Excited for this, honestly. I believe they know they fucked up and will make it better this time
Although I am not sure what is this...they know the story? rewrite it? reboot everything or just the final season or what

But sadly I don't think a season sequel will be good because while they can fix every shitty thing they did..one thing they can't fix is Debra's Death and it's a dealbreaker for me because she was so important and useful for the story

But again, I have no idea what they mean by "coming back"

Literally a slice of life show about life in a small town logging community. Literally no connection to the previous show except Dexter himself who is just a regular guy now.

I legit think thats the best they can do if they want to stick to a continuation instead of a reboot.

Most comments were negative, unfortunately.
She is a mess, sure, but she always tries her best and always try to be positive. This is admirable

Ok I looked up an article - "Hall joins original series showrunner Clyde Phillips, who steered the show for Dexter's first four seasons before stepping down"

Good, step 1 complete.

Is it set in Oregon?

No details on story or what "coming back" means but let me trot out my television (and Dexter) cliches

-Show starts off in the "present" (Oregon, still logging?)
-Dexter hears about serial killer in news, dark passenger reawakens for whatever reason
-Back in the game, goes to city (maybe Miami?) to track him down
-Periodic flashbacks to some case which is how we get Deb and the Miami crew into this series
-Finally catches serial killer, spoiler: it's his son

At this point I'd be surprised if they didn't go the "son's a serial killer" route.

lol. I did say it'd be a clich!

Alternatively they don't go the "surprise" route, they let us know that right from episode 1: he's watching the tv show/news coverage/whatever, they're talking about the serial killer and the motif he uses, and it's something that relates to Harrison's childhood so only Dexter would recognize it. Dark passenger reawakened and that's what gets him back in the game.

Ok I like that plan more than the obvious reveal.

I love Debra, she was like the best character. Did her dirty. Worst finale in history. In GoT you knew those things were broadly going to happen they were just done so so badly. But in Dexter? Totally out of left field, and horrible trash on top of it. I hope they don't make Deb a ghost or something.

Do we need spoiler tags
I mean, it's obvious we don't because the nature of the tppic
But just to be safe-

I feel like she is the character that least deserved to die that I have ever seen. She suffered so much for 8 seasons, give her a break! She deserves some kind of a happy ending.
Engaged to a serial killer that wanted to kill her, lost her lover in front of her eyes, her brother is a serial killer, her father commited suicide, she had to live with a woman she hates and tried to kill her and she also had to murder her boss.
I mean, fuck, let her rest in peace - but not literally!

Exactly!

I know that literally everyone wanted to see Deb go after Dexter. Maybe have a full season where she tries to live with it after she catches him and then full into cat and mouse between them. Deb wins or Dexter lets her win and she gets a huge promotion or something. Have her visit him in jail. Everything literally lined up to go that way with Dexter finally being exposed at the end- bittersweet because he can let everyone know the true him but hell go to jail. Drop the incest romance plot.

I take back any theories I said before involving his son, for some reason I thought the show went off the air a lot longer ago but it's only been 7 years, if they kept it "real time" he'd be a teenager... though I guess they could timeskip a few extra years.

He would be 11 years old, yes, which wouldn't make sense

I raged about this shit so much
Because when they first showed it I just knew it would play a role
And then it did
And it was so obvious

And then there was barely blood, and Hannah only tried to call Dexter like,,once. Instead of, idk, try to call Debra because this is emergancy? maybe her drug addict friend? I mean it's risky, but it's even riskier than going to the fucking hospital when there is a BOLO on you
Who the hell wrote this shit
I am not getting paid a single penny to write a TV show and yet I could see this was idiotic writing
And someone got paid thousands of dollars for this scene
What the fuck

It's not bad, but it isn't really great either
It suffers from being a obvious fall of grace because S4 is the peak of the series
7 isn't that bad either, it just split into multiple storylines and it's kind of a mess, but some of those parts were great (the only problem with Isaak Sirko is not having enough screentime)
6 and 8 are offensivly bad

I liked season 5 a lot since I love payback/revenge/retribution stories, but yeah the ending of season 5, damn.

Though I think you're referring to the "curtain" scene, for me there's that one moment (S5 ending spoilers):

When they've killed all the guys, and Lumen and Dexter are on his boat, whipping through the water, sun setting in the distant, wind flowing through her hair and she turns around with a big smile on her face, and Dexter's also kind of smiling in his Dexter-y way...

And what I would do if I had video editing software is I'd end the episode there, fade to black, cut out everything that happens afterwards and say Dex and Lumen lived happily ever after the end. No disappointing end after that scene, no seasons 6-8. And I'd tell people to watch Seasons 1 through 5 up to the S5 finale and then watched my edited version of the finale, lol.

I also remember liking season 7 but I don't know if it's just because of how bad Season 6 was (where I remember the main villain but literally can't remember anything else) and the expectations were already lowered...
