I was screwed by a fake Leaf Green cart way back in the day (came in the box and everything), I didn't notice until too late when the saves wouldn't load. Never got another fake game, just the one (now two) GBA ones.

Looking into this more I'm pretty sure it is a fake, the board or whatever you call it that the pins are on is like a copperish brown instead of the whiter tinge the regular ones have. But apparently it's a pretty good fake as the fonts, positioning and tri screw are all correct. Oh well.

Well I got a refund at least. The guy claims he bought it himself from someone else to sell on and has asked me not to mention it on the feedback as it could be damaging. Seems shady as a couple others have already mentioned bootlegs but I won't push it any further. Back on the hunt!

Thanks to the discord SMFFFC folks my plan now for FFT is to buy it digitally on PS3. V and VI I'm still gonna try to look for on GBA but I'm gonna be more careful now. Thanks again to Mr Crispy, without you I could've started off on the game and gotten a ways in before the save corrupted or something.

I feel you, I've done this with Golden Sun 2 and some other stuff before. Who would've thought Squenix would only put half of their flagship series on mobile/pc after that.

I need to replay VI because I honestly dont get the hype. I played it, it was fine, it probably wouldnt make my top 5 though. I played the ps version fwiw. Maybe I missed something or maybe I was too young. Im almost finished replaying VIII and Im enjoying it more than I did previously. I think it suffered from following VII originally instead of being judged as a stand alone game.

I played VI (Advance version) for the first time in the last year and I also don't get the hype - it's a solid game but it's nowhere close to Chrono Trigger's league

(the majority of the cast is pretty whatever too - it's simply too bloated for most of them to get the attention they need)

That's very kind of you to think of! Reading Japanese would be helpful for a lot of this kinda thing I imagine, I almost bought a cheap version of Ghost Trick last month before realising it was Japanese.

You're not alone! Lefty ofc and some others I think aren't super keen on it, but it was handily winning this poll before the stuffing started. Apparently the PS is the worse version but just cos of load times etc I think. I think a lot of people also see VI as so definitive and important to the series that it has to be played, hence it doing so well in the poll.

I'm keeping an eye on a copy of VIA being bidded on now that has the factory numbers visible so fingers crossed. I made a US PSN account on PS3 so I have access to Tactics, I'll need to buy a US gift card as Paypal etc seems to be region locked but that should be easy enough for me from Amazon or something.

Not really. Like for instance I really like Macaroni and Cheese but if you want me to choose between the Macaroni and the Cheese I'm going to say they're both part of the dish and I'd rather not pick between the two, even if gun to head and you force me to pick one I guess I'd take the cheese sauce because it's got the lion's share of the taste contribution. And I mean, I'd probably have plain macaroni over the cheese sauce pretty darn often too.

But I'm going to eat Macaroni and Cheese over melted cheese sauce or plain macaroni every time, you know?

Ultimately the question of whether you're a World of Balance guy or a World of Ruin guy is whether you'd rather have the game take entirely the style of one or entirely the style of the other, or whether they prefer the game as is. If it's the latter than you're just a FFVI guy. You believe the worlds complement each other in a good way that makes it hard to choose a favorite in a vacuum, hard enough where the choice being forced is almost a meaningless distinction.

I like both worlds in FFVI quite a bit. It's not like in FFVII where I'm a Disc 1 guy or FFVIII where I'm a "any disc but 3" guy.

I mean, I get what you're saying. FFVI is great as a complete package, and that's what makes both of them work.

But if you were forced to only play half of the game but you were allowed to choose which half, you'd probably be able to come to a decision. I'm not saying that you'd rather have the entire game be this or that by picking a favorite, but you probably dont like both parts of the game equally.

I think that the point is that, the ability to pick one world over the other does not by itself make you a World of ___ guy, or rather your choice of language there is dumb.

Im not sure about you, but whenever I see ____ guy used, that is inherently suggesting a strong, or at least definitive preference. Not merely a, I could pick one after five minutes with a gun to my head, preference.

Well I like them close enough to equally that I can't really pick one right now without really really thinking about it-- it's also really hard to separate them like that internally for me. I like them close enough to equally that forcing me to pick is virtually meaningless

I think a good example of this on a character level exists within FFVI too. Like if you ask me to pick between Sabin and Edgar, which is better, I really can't do it. Their backstories and interactions are so heavily intertwined and they're both great in their own way.

That's not to say people don't exist that have clear cut preferences between Sabin and Edgar, because they are distinct characters, but for me who pretty much likes everything about how their personalities and their stories and stuff, I can't really pick. I'm not "an Edgar guy" or "a Sabin guy" I just really like both of them and wouldn't have more of one at the expense of the other, even to a slight degree.

Related note as a fun fact I used to have a Heroic Mariolike list problem to the point where I have 4 character lists across the ages.

Edgar and Sabin are always back to back on it. Sabin has always been one spot higher so I guess that makes me "a Sabin guy" but before I opened the document I thought Edgar was going to be the guy one spot higher.

Also when I ranked FF1-FF6 characters on the board they were literally the same write-up (Sabin was 3 and Edgar was 4, but they shared a write-up)

Of course as a contrast, glancing through it, X-Death is 1 and Gilgamesh is 2 on that same list. Two other linked characters in my mind, two that I really like, but not sharing a write-up.

Anyway, I now own Tactics after jumping through a few hoops. The game was $9.99 on the store so I got a $10 US PSN card, only to then find out I'd have to pay 0.50 tax on top of that (Is this normal over there? Weird). Thankfully I didn't have to get another card as I changed address to a couple different states til I found one that evidently doesn't have sales tax (way to go Georgia!). Bought, dl'd, installed, yay Tactics! It will most likely be my next FF playthrough. I know it's 4th in the poll but VA and VIA might take a while to get and my Game Pass just ran out, also Delita made it past Garnet in SMFFFC so it seems fitting.

I guess I'm just worried that I'll play and it'll save fine then like 30 hours in it'll corrupt and I'll lose all progress, I'd rather not risk that. Aren't GBA bootlegs pretty notorious for dodgy saves?

I've been replaying a little bit of Triple Tri- er, FF8 and I think my opinion of Squall has improved considerably tbh

Maybe the 3rd best protagonist in FF? The Squall/Tidus/Cloud cluster is pretty tough to decide upon who's the best
