All these posts about pregnancy made me feel more comfortable to share. Im almost 14 weeks pregnant! Its taken us a long time to get here and multiple IVF rounds, but the third transfer was the charm. We are expecting a little girl.

I know were not in the clear until shes here but all ultrasounds and tests so far have been great. Im beyond excited. Ive dreamed of being a mom all my life. I never imagined I would need to turn into a human pin cushion to get there, but there are worse things in life.

Ama about IVF if you like.

Congrats!

Did your insurance cover IVF?

Ours doesn't so the reproductive health clinic has my wife on all these crazy medications (that also aren't covered but a couple hundred bucks > several thousand for IVF) and so far they've helped her cycle get back on track and we're hoping to find out she's pregnant within the next month

I remember reading a post from you that made me sad, cause it touched on you struggling to get pregnant. And of course it was in one the 10,000 topics of CEmen stating how much people shouldn't have kids and how much they hate them.

Super happy for you. And it's satisfying to me that's it's a big "fuck you" to all those people who were insensitive to the plight of these situations :3.

Everything I've read from you leads me to believe you're exactly the type of person we need raising the next generation. Congratulations.

Im very lucky that everything was covered except meds. Which then became covered after I already did 2 egg retrievals and didnt need them anymore lol

My RE figured since I was covered with IVF we might as well go with it and not waste my time since I was 33 at the time and egg quality was bound to get even worse.

Good luck, I hope it works for you!

what does IVF entail?
Well, the biggest thing about IVF is you need to be on daily injections to stimulate your follicles for egg retrieval. Youre on these hormones for 10-12 days or so, with a few ultrasounds in between so they can check the growth of follicles. Then they retrieve your eggs, fertilize them with sperm and observe them growing. They want to see that embryos can get to day 5 or so with appropriate cell division (though they will monitor up to day 7 for slowbies)

The process from egg retrieval to fertilization to embryos tends to have a lot of drop off. Not all eggs will fertilize, not all who do will survive. So its nerve wracking.

Then they do a fresh or frozen transfer. For me they were frozen as they have a higher chance and we also opted for genetic testing to discard any abnormal ones (typically $4-5k but my insurance covered it). Then they have you on estrogen supplements and daily progesterone injections (which hurt like hell) starting a few days before transfer until you are 10 weeks if successfully pregnant (they have you stop if your blood test comes back negative). Which you find out about 10 days after transfer.

Between 2 egg retrievals and 3 transfers (this one being successful), Ive been poked at least 100 times lol

Aww thanks dude, that means a lot. I know there were some rude comments. Its expected when people dont understand something. But I will still continue to share this because I know Im not the only one to live through it. I know I felt very alone at first but Ive learned so many people struggle at it helps them to know that success is possible

Ill have to check it out!

Its crazy, since I started IVF 2 years ago, Ive learned of 2 other women in my department that are doing it or starting to. Ive also learned of a few other family members who have recently shared their struggles to conceive also, one just met with a fertility doc a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if its getting more frequent to need medical assistance or if people are finally feeling like they can share more freely without any stigma.

I loved the way my fertility doc put it for me when I struggled with guilt or feelings of failure. He said we treat diabetes with insulin, we treat cancer with chemo, infertility is just another medical condition we can treat also.

You should! It's really good. I'm sure you'll be able to identify with it, having gone through it yourself.

My own goal is to adopt someday, but I'm way too poor to do it anytime soon. I'm also worried I'd have additional difficulty with it, considering a lot of adoption agencies are pretty hardcore Christian.

I hate how expensive adoption is. Does your insurance cover any expenses? I know my company covers $5k, which isnt much but I guess something is better than nothing.

You could always just do a poll for fun with you and your husband's top names just to see what people think. Last time I checked the results of polls here weren't legally binding.
