in early March I got incredibly sick very suddenly, I had flu-like symptoms but the doctor said it was not the flu. They didnt really test further, just said it seemed like a "very bad cold" which is def possible. I was in a lot of pain just moving and couldn't stop shaking, it was one of the sickest I had ever been in my life. My girlfriend insists I had COVID but i guess i'll never really know for sure

one of my employees tested positive for it recently and I got tested and I did not have it

Barely anyone had it in the US in January, so just by Bayes Theorem anyone with covid-like symptoms back then was much more likely to have had the flu (afaik there was a pretty nasty flu strain in circulation last winter, which is most likely what the vast, vast majority of those who think they had covid in Dec/Jan actually had).

There's a small chance I got it in March.

The issue with the antibody tests is that they've been found to fade relatively quickly, especially in people who had mild or asymptomatic infection. So unfortunately it may be too late to detect them in people who believe they were infected back in March or so and weren't able to get tested then. There's always the far more involved and expensive test for T helper cells which are also adaptive and specific to the virus. As far as I know the only way to do that is through studies.

I havent gotten the flu in over 10 years, but I got it this February a few days after attending an NBA game. Maybe it's because I hadnt had the flu in a while, but it was horrible. Definitely the worst sickness that I can recall. There were no COVID cases in my area until a month later, but I still wonder if I had it. Just a really strange coincidence otherwise to get the flu like that, first time in over a decade, right before COVID strikes.

Another one of those "maybe in February, might've just been the flu though" posts here

what makes this interesting though is that in June, the one person in my house who didn't get sick back in February tested positive for COVID-19, but no one else got it

No. Have been tested like 7 times (yayyy working in health care with mandatory monthly screenings). Had one inconclusive but it ended up being negative. I'm not complaining though. Mommadore is high risk so every time I test negative I get to see her!

I'm also in the category of "really sick in January and not sure if was early COVID or a bad flu that the flu shot couldn't kill."

A couple things to do point to it actually being COVID, namely that I did travel to and from Florida that month, where the virus is said to have been spreading at the time. Also, I do remember my sense of taste being dulled.

I was ill with symptoms about two months ago, for about 3 weeks. Tested negative but test is only 70% accurate apparently in the UK, and subsequent doctors have told me they think I did indeed have it. It was too late to test again.

So technically No, but I'd say probably did have it.

Actually pretty low

7.5M cases in the US, a population of 300 million, is around 2.5%, and the US has been among the worst in containing the virus. So yes, 15% is inordinately high. Poll is down to 11 now, but that's still far more than I expected.

you can get a free antibody test done if you donate blood to the red cross right now. won't be definitive of course but could be a good indicator if you had it or not

13% kind of makes sense with the combination of people confirmed to have gotten it or believe they got it and simply weren't tested. For every person who has an anecdote that may have just been the flu, there's probably another person voting no who was asymptomatic and unaware. Recent antibody studies demonstrated a 10% seroprevalence rate as of July in the US (I know not everyone here is in the US) and antibody studies don't paint the full picture of who has actually gotten the virus.

For the record, my "slight chance" was still a no vote.

My family has been in isolation since the end of February. My wife goes out once every two weeks for groceries, she works from home, and my kids are online instructed.

I'm in the high risk category due to an extremely compromised immune system (I have no Colon or Spleen), so we aren't taking chances.

I had a really bad dry cough from January - February and for one week there I had a high fever and the runs. Tested negative for the flu and doctors didn't really know what was up, so I think it's possible. But yeah, there's no way of knowing by this point.

Edit: Also my partner caught it basically immediately after I did, so whatever it was it was highly transmissible. She also tested negative for the flu.
