The idea of the U.S. willingly raising minimum wage is almost laughable. I suspect that, given the choice, the people in charge would sooner lower it than raise it.

I'm sure Republican's will claim this never would work and even if Sweden makes it work for 5+ years they will still claim it would never work here.

Considering that not even all of Switzerland is doing that, and no place else in the world is either... That said, you might someday see very select US cities hit it, but it's not feasible nationwide (hell, it's not even done nationwide in Switzerland)

It's been raised many times already, both nationally and at the state levels.

Bernie Sanders is a Republican now? Who knew! Because even Bernie isn't recommending anything close to that. Second, Sweden doesn't have a minimum wage, so it'd be hard to "make it work for 5+ years." And assuming you meant Switzerland instead of Sweden, it doesn't have a national minimum wage. And the idea because something works in one part of a place it means it should work across other whole nations is recognized by most members of both parties -- and independents -- as inherently fallacious. Geneva is an absurdly rich area which might compete with the US's richest cities, but that's a far cry from the average US city let alone the poorer ones.

It's that much here in NYC right now...but it's a moot point since Rent for a Studio in a Decent neighborhood/condo is like $2000 Bucks a Month.

So you're basically blowing your whole salary on Rent/Bills...

The federal minimum wage has gone up like 2 dollars in the past 25 years while the cost of goods and rent and such has increased significantly

A $2 federal increase was a like a 40% increase over the previous minimum. Of course, the actual minimum wage 25 years ago was $4.25 (which rose to $4.75 in 1996). That's a 70%+ increase.

https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/minimum-wage/history/chart

It's also exactly in line with the rise in inflation, since a dollar in 1995 would be worth $1.71 today.

I didn't realize you lived in Brazil. Guess that kinda explains why your posts are always so anti-American.

Because that's the federal. Back in 1996, that minimum was $4.75

In Sweden you receive money from the state even if you're unemployed and the amount you get depends on stuff like your age I think.
It also helps that the healthcare isn't unreasonably expensive.

70% increase from next to nothing is still next to nothing but either way the most preposterous thing is really the complete absence of any increase in the last decade when cost of living has skyrocketed in the past decade. No matter how you look at it minimum wage has not kept pace with inflation
