Ron Paul, a former presidential candidate and a pioneering figure in the libertarian movement, was hospitalized Friday after suffering an apparent medical incident during a live stream on his YouTube channel.

Paul, 85, was talking about federal stimulus money when his speech began to slur.

He was hospitalized in Texas for "precautionary reasons," according to Fox News.

Fox News also reported that Paul was "lucid and optimistic."

Didn't realize he was still very much in the public eye, probably because his son attracts headlines instead now.

I suppose it was a good thing that it happened right then, since it ensured it was noticed which meant he could get help faster. Also I didn't realize he's 85 now. Oo

That's awful. I'm not 100% on board with his entire platform but he has been instrumental in drawing attention to a lot of issues that plague both major parties that almost no one in the mainstream media talks about. Namely privacy issues and the wars on terror and drugs

it's possible it was a TIA, i've had a few of those. they're essentially strokes, but without the actual damage one gives you. they are indicative of an actual stroke coming down the line.

that it just appeared so suddenly like that makes me think it was a TIA, because if it were an actual stroke, you kinda feel that coming before the slurring happens, especially if they said he was "lucid and optimistic".

Actually, I think this is my first time I saw a stroke happen.

Seems like someone should teach you this stuff or something.

I remember being taught first-aid for seizures in middle school though.

Just wondering if he's left or right handed since he's giving that thumbs up left handed, and that stroke in the video was on his right side. He obviously wasn't taking that picture with his other hand...

Ron Paul is awesome. Still to this day the only politician I've ever gone to a rally/speech for.
I disagree w/ him on a fair number of issues, but unlike some "libertarians", he never acted like a total hypocrite and would be unflinchingly critical of his own party when they were wrong, rather than conveniently "evolve" his views.

What I'm saying is, his son is freaking awful and I can't believe how far from the proverbial tree he fell...head first

That's great!

Probably because Ron is a more staunch libertarian while Rand is a moderate. However, your assessment rather unfairly overlooks everything Rand has done to protect American freedoms, considering his tireless activism against the surveillance state, big government, FISA warrants, and the drone program.
