If something is on sale, do you tip based on the original price or the sale price?

For instance, if you get a haircut that normally costs $15 but it's on sale for $7, do you tip based on the $15 normal price ($3 assuming a 20% tip) or the $7 sale price ($1.40)?

I'm asking about what YOU do, not a general SHOULD YOU. I can google that info.

I honestly dont know. I dont think I normally get stuff that I tip for on sale... I get deals on Pizza, but I dont really consider that a sale. I probably just give some random amount...

I don't think I've ever gotten anything on sale that involves tipping in the first place, so I've never been in this situation in order to have an established pattern of behavior for it.

The original price.

Though since the pandemic began I've been adding a flat $10 or $15 on top of what I'd normally tip.

Slight wall o' text
How I tip usually:
$2 for delivery orders (in cash if it's the store's service, if I'm using doordash I just do it online ($2 aswell), giving at least a small tip like that encourages doordashers to choose the job and pick up your order in a reasonable timeframe. I don't tip percent wise because I rarely order anything above $20 max which is rare even, I usually just order near the minimum delivery limits or a few dollars over which is usually like $10-12-15 depending on the place. I think $2 is fair for someone who's not loaded. You got these idiots on the internet that say don't order food unless you can tip X or X% exorbitant amount, and I'm like, sure you can technically always just cook food at home but why make myself suffer that everday even when I'm exhausted just because of these people's justifications? **** em man, tipping snobs are the worse. It's not a luxury service, people need to eat. And a broke person could even be out of groceries and no way to travel reasonably. Sure that's bad 'forethought' but can happen.

for sitdown waiter/waitress service restaurants i usually just tip 10-15% standard the rare times I go to them, unless it's a buffet because all they do is get you water

for cab rides I just round up to the next dollar, bothering with change is annoying, or I use a card since a lot of cabs have card readers now to compete with uber, lyft, etc. It's really annoying how the same cab ride can be a different price, you get drivers that are driving slow or the long way on purpose and even some that jack up the price at the end in a big price jump as soon as you stop somehow, but some people are nice and truly fair with the way they charge

Those restaurants asking for a tip for a togo order on their payment system or even for sitdown in a fast casual restaurant can go **** themselves, I won't tip that. There is basically no service being given

This. Although if I had, I'd probably pay based on the reduced amount in the case of a general sale or tip extra if it was a special discount.

I dont tip either. We can learn a vary valuable lesson from Europe. But since I live in gold ol' America, everybody wants to have their hand in the pot and expect you to fork over more, and more. Nope... I dont think so. No one ever said I had to, and I never will. Call me a cheapskate, etc. Or whatever, but I too can also play this game. I want my money too, and I love money too. So therefor, I dont tip.

You sound like such a generous person...

Anyways, fixed tipping amounts is usually the easiest. Most tips are $5-$15 for me, depending on everything basically.

I mean, I also consider if they're paid a wage that is intended for tipping or not. If it's just a tip jar or something, then it's buck or two.

I tip based on the amount I have to pay, so I guess it would be sale price.

This for haircuts it's just $5 or I just give em a $20 (some haircut places charge like $10 which is really cheap so I give them a $20 anyway).

For food, I tip based on the total even though I really should take out the tax (11% here in WA) and the delivery fees etc. Honestly if there is a sale they are still getting tipped more than they should because I don't take those out.

For delivery the tip is never less than $3 and usually more like $5, but I don't get delivery much anymore (since it's so expensive out here). I have not eaten at a restraunt in like a year, and I only ever tip $1 for to go orders.

I have never tipped for a haircut, not when I'm already giving them $40 for 10 minutes of work.

When it comes to pretty much anything else, I tip a minimum of $10 and go up from there based on price/service. In general I probably tip around 40%.

Holy crap are you going to a beutician shop or something? My wife would pay insane amounts for hair cuts (and coloring her hair as well, but I love red hair so I certainly never objected), but for guys I mean $20 is usually top end cost...and you can generally get a good cut for between 12-15$.

I guess, technically? He owns a spa type thing and I am one of maybe 2-3 male clients he has.
They do haircuts, massages, mani/pedis, waxing, pretty much anything you can think of.

I've been going to the same barber my entire life, he was one of my dad's college friends and cut his hair too.

I tip what I feel like regardless of price anytime I tip.

Sometimes that means leaving a 40% tip. Sometimes that means leaving a 8% tip. But I always tip.

At bars I tip a dollar per drink.

Restaurants I tip 20% of the bill.

People who have a problem always like to pretend that their refusal to tip is based upon some sort of bull **** principles. But if they legitimately had a problem with it, they'd be writing their senators and starting online campaigns to change the system.

But that's not what they do. They stiff hard working people and then act like being a cheap ass makes them morally superior.

I pay the price advertised and that's it. We don't really do tipping in the UK.
