I think they were smoking some really cheap meth when they decided to put the prank call scene in. At any point during that writing session did anyone think it was a seriously good idea?

The prank call is legitimately awful. It doesnt even feel like something out of a Star Wars movie. It felt like a B-side Marvel quip that they just decided to shoehorn in for some reason.

They are both really awful for different reasons.

I guess it comes down to the question: "Which is worse? Tone-Deafness or complete incompetence and laziness?"

I think Vader's Noooo should still be in the running, I'm guessing it didn't get enough votes because people didn't realize we were talking about the HORRIBLE RotJ edit.

I did my best to make that clear :/ sometimes it can be hard to differentiate between the edit and the rest of the scene.

The prank call is so bad. I liked TLJ, and I legitimately hate that scene. You can't just ignore it either, cause it's like a minute long, not some two second clip that became a meme.

Im surprised the knife scene from RoS isn't in the bracket? Unless I somehow missed it.

It was in there (assuming we mean the same knife scene)

That. My friend whos obsessed with Star Wars refuses to see why its horrible. He defends it as Star Wars evolving its humor to match modern humor but I keep explaining that TFA, R1, and Solo have modern humor that still fit the Star Wars writing style. Even TROS has modern humor at times that isnt as cringe as the opening scene of TLJ, although that one still has some bad ones.

Theyre both awful, but the Hux prank call ruined TLJ within the first five minutes.

Oscar Isaac is one of the greatest actors of his generation and didn't deserve this schadenfreude ruse they dragged him through.

"Secrets only the sith knew"

Not much of a secret then??

Like, the prank call is way too obviously an invention of Disney's Marvel philosophy, but Star Wars isn't always super serious, Luke and co used the dumb old code trick in OT and the prequels are full of childish crap. The Palpatine Returned scene on the other hand is like the writers looking into the camera and saying "fuck if we know, nobody thought this out"
