The new modern and SERIOUS version of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is well underway as the whole cast got back together for a photo...and with one obvious missing original cast member.

No, not James Avery who played Phillip Banks and sadly passed away in 2013 from complications of open heart surgery.

The missing cast member was original Vivian Banks played by Janet Hubert as the clash between Will Smith and Huber is still ongoing years later of which the 2 are still are on bad terms when Janet claimed Smith got her fired for speaking out against the focus on Smith's character and less on the family.

Daphne Reid, who was Vivian Banks #2 will return instead to reprise her role along with Tatyana Ali, Alfonso Ribeiro, Joseph Marcell, Karyn Parsons and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

It's not a reboot or a revival, it's a one-off reunion special afaik. Supposely there's also a reboot in the works (with Smith attached as a producer), but that's obviously separate.

Which was also a weird choice. But in the end, they both couldnt be Becky. They had to make another role for her. Which wouldnt work with the Vivians since Will Smith had a beef with the first one... Also, they would probably have to re-wrote stuff, I guess. And who knows if either Vivian would want to give up the Vivian role...

You know, thinking about it, Ms. Hubert might be right. How dare a show designed for boosting Will Smith's early career, one entitled for a single character, put so much focus on a single character? I'm sure this is a legitimate and sole issue that had divided herself and Will Smith.

There's so much content out there, and I have so little time, that I barely get to see the things I really want to see. There's at least 2 dozen shows and films I'd like to watch before I would even think of watching this.

Yeah. My backlog of shows is huge. Especially since I stopped paying for NetFlix and Hulu for like a year a couple of years ago, and the shows piled up. Now I have both back and Disney+, so yeah...

Was she confused as to who had top billing everytime she walked past the sign on the sound stage door? Pretty stupid argument to try and win. Did she think she was actually on Family Matters? At the time, just about every other black family sitcom I can think of was attached to a name. Roc. Martin. Cosby.

She was on a show called Fresh Prince of BelAir. What did she think she signed up for?

I was under the impression that she'd been fired because she got pregnant, which forbidden by her contract. It wouldn't surprise me if some interpersonal issues exacerbated that, but I thought the actual firing was much less subjective than her speaking out about writing decisions.

What's fun is knowing that they only shot the scene of Jazz getting thrown out of the house once, so he only ever gets thrown out if he's wearing the same shirt as he was in that one shot. If you see him wearing that shirt, you know he's going to get thrown out at some point.

I already knew about this because I read about it, however, when I was watching the show when I was younger, I didn't even notice Vivian got replaced.

Will I watch it? Probably not, even though I've watched every episode of the original. These "years later reunion shows" seem to be more misses than hits, I'll read some reviews and maybe watch it based on that.

It must have been VERY recently, because she was talking mad smack on her Vlog about Will during that entanglement fiasco. The only way I can see someone switch on a dime like that involves a fuck ton of money.

They explicitly point it out in the first episode with the new Vivian. They interpreted the whole "fourth wall" thing a little more loosely in the later seasons.

Yeah, see, if she was on Family Matters, she might have had a case about Steve Urkel stealing the show when he was meant to be a one-off support character. She would have lost and have been written off like the youngest sister everyone forgot about (whose actress committed the cardinal sin of asking for more money). But she was on Will Smith's show.

Dude has an ego for all to see.

It's also not like Stargate SG-1 where seasons one through eight were clearly all very Richard Dean Anderson at front and center, but the actor was chill about it. Like, he invited cast and crew over to his place to befriend them, and gave the main cast all plenty of time for their own arcs. Naturally, three of my favorite episodes remain focused on the character Jack Oneill, but the others had their time and focus in a show he helped produce and got top billing for.

Yeah. But since I didnt watch them in order I didnt notice. I did know about it because I read it, as well. But it was never something I picked up on as a kid...
