In the interview he said that when he sees big trucks with American flags he automatically thinks they are "out to get him".

His lawyers were right, he shouldn't had said anything, especially to Vice, but he didn't plan on going out alive it does not appear so I guess he didn't care about appearing paranoid.

There was no gunfight. Cops showed up, guy had gun. 4 cops blasted him.

Fair enough, I was going from what was the original interview with some of the neighbors where they saying that they heard gunshots and saw 4 cops firing. It was kind of vague, as most eyewitness testimony tends to be. That was also from the initial story though. I'm curious to see how the entire thing played out but we'll likely never know since federal marshals don't usually wear bodycams.

Ok, so far the officers have not made a statement as to whether the guy fired shots, the one source I see is from the link from the link on oregonlive which says:

Chad Smith and Chase Cutler, who were working on cars nearby Thursday, said an unmarked SUV had been parked on School Street for a while when that SUV and another converged on a man in a vehicle at the apartment complex. Smith and Cutler moved onto a grassy area about 50 yards away to watch what was happening.
The man got out of his vehicle and began to fire what they believe was an assault rifle at the SUVs. They said they heard 40 or 50 shots, then officers returned fire, hitting the man.

It reminded me of a video game, Cutler said.
