Mario vs. Sonic the Hedgehog (Gaming Mascots)



Arguably the most famous rivalry in gaming history (and one of the most important, too), Mario and Sonic were deathly rivals back in the 1990s, which many people consider to be the Golden Age of videogames. The battle of the mascots was so strong that even Sony decided to create its own to popularize the PlayStation, giving birth to Crash Bandicoot.

Mario and Sonic are also part of GameFAQss Noble Nine, which, though representing only a small sample of their popularity among gamers, gives us a great scope about the importance and transcendence of these characters.

The thing was so massive, that everyone lost their minds when they were announced in a competitive game together, called Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Though the game was just a fad in terms of them facing off, it means that their rivalry still resonates with us many years after they decided to settle things down. -Advokaiser

Overwatch vs. Talon (Overwatch)



Overwatch was an international task force formed during the Omnic Crisis over thirty years ago. It championed the ideals of heroism, sacrifice, and nobility. It carried out operations against the terrorist group Talon.

Talon is comprised of a variety of individuals, each with their own goals and ideas. Through its leader Doomfist, its current manifesto is that humanity is made stronger through conflict. Consequently, Talon seeks to sow turmoil across the globe to strengthen the human race. Repeatedly, Talon has demonstrated disregard for the standard rules of engagement, attacking both military and civilian targets with impunity. -Overwatch Wiki

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. Final Fantasy VII (Best. Game. Ever. Rivalry)



Despite the fact that there have been multiple groundbreaking and revolutionary titles throughout the history of videogames, with some of them changing gaming forever as we know it, very few games have had both the impact and praise of these two particular titles. When it comes to a contention of the Greatest Game Ever Made, these two are usually the ones that pop up, not only in GameFAQs contests alone, but in peoples minds as well, being them rabid gamers or not.

I gotta be honest: Ive yet to play Final Fantasy VII, but speaking from a subjective point of view, Ocarina of Time is one of the most overrated games ever. From an objective perspective, however, both Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII are games that came out in the right place at the right time. I may disagree with the praise at least one of them gets, but nobody can deny that they did a tremendously beneficial impact to the industry. If they are still receiving a huge amount of praise to this day after all this time, it means that they did something right they hit the right notes of the generation that saw them in their prime, and those experiences are forever valuable, unforgettable, and priceless. -Advokaiser

Pokmon vs. Digimon (Gaming Franchises)



Pokmon was initially conceived as a monster-raising game that finally saw the light in 1996, in Japan. Its massive success led to it being brought overseas, and it spawned a TV show shortly after, as well as lots of merchandise along the way. Digimon, which followed a very similar premise to Pokmon and also targeted the same age demographic, came out in 1997, a year after Pokmon first came out. Despite Digimon not being nearly as big of a phenomenon as Pokmon was (and still is to this day), it was nevertheless widely successful, particularly in terms of the anime.

While both franchises may be seen as semi-direct competitors, fans of both series have often mentioned that the differences between them are what make both of them great in their own ways. Some mention that Pokmon is better in terms of games, but that Digimon is better in the anime department. Regardless of your own choice, we can all agree that they both hit our childhoods in one way or another, at certain points in time. -Advokaiser
