I bet especially in those midwestern places, they have homephones all over the house. They can't have disappeared completely right?

My parents have always had a landline, even now.

But it's rarely used and all it seems to get nowadays are scam calls.

Yes. My kids don't have cell phones, and they need to be able to call us on OUR cell phones. (Well, not right now because of SIP, but typically.)

My son will be getting a phone as soon as the iPhone 12 comes out, and my daughter may get one next year. After that we may drop our landline. Depends on how it affects our (bundled) cable bill. We don't have a lot of internet options (despite being in the Bay Area), and it might make sense to keep the phone line.

This. It rings like once or twice a week and they never answer it (always a scam voicemail after).

Even my grandparents (in their 80s) use smartphones to call my parents now.

Yeah my parents have a house in Wisconsin in the middle of nowhere where cell service is shoddy so they still use the landline.

I've entertained the idea of getting a landline so I don't need to give my employer my cellphone number since it's annoying af.

My parents got their landline taken away just a couple years back. They were told by the phone guy working with them that landlines were at only something like 1-2% of households. Now, I'm guessing that's for our area, which is urbanized, but still.
