When did you last get asked for I.D?

So for the first time in years I got asked for I.D today when buying alcohol. I'm 33 and although I look young for my age I certainly don't look under 20. Even with my mask on that's a stretch. I'm not sure if it's a compliment to suggest I'm younger than I say I am or it's insulting insinuating I'm a liar. The cashier was a new person so it's understandable they are keen and it's more than their job is worth to serve me. I still think common sense needs to be applied though. I didn't have I.D on me as I haven't needed it for so long and I normally use self service as I don't need to deal with humans that much. Still it is what it is and I just went elsewhere. So when was PotD last asked for I.D?

I was ID'd for the first time in about 7 years last month. I think it was because I was wearing a mask covering my beard, plus a hat covering my slightly receding hairline.

The girl at the till was probably only like 19 or 20, and I'm 28. She laughed and said "oops" when she saw my age, and said I have "young looking eyes".

Getting ID's in your late teens or early 20s is annoying but honestly this was kind of flattering.

If I shave I can be IDd. If I dont then I usually dont have trouble. The age they ID at has gone up about seventeen years over the last two decades. It used to be eighteen, then nineteen, then twenty-five, then thirty, and last I checked its if you look under thirty-five they can ask for ID now. Its really stupid. Wow.... this shit never makes sense to me. 18 is the legal age over here so if I clearly look over 18 there shouldn't be a need to challenge anything. Likewise in the USA if you clearly look over 21 the same should apply. I've heard stories of old folk been asked for I.D. I get some folk look older than they are but common sense isn't that common it seems and the cashier wasn't in any danger of losing her job at all.

I believe it was when I went to the emergency room a few weeks ago after choking on some water (had some breathing difficulties afterward that turned out to just be residual irritation). The health cards for that province normally have a photo on them, but it had an out-of-province one and had to show an extra piece of ID. Before that, it was while getting fingerprinted for a security check for the job I'm starting next week. Don't remember how long it was before then. Surprisingly, I wasn't asked for ID at the borders of either province I entered when I moved here a week ago, despite stopping at the checkpoints they had set up to control Covid spread.

In terms of alcohol purchasing or anything else that's age-restricted, I can think of a grand total of one time I've been carded spontaneously (as in, being personally asked for it and not just had to show it by default to get in), and that was probably nearly a decade ago now. I've looked like I'm in my mid-20's since I was about 17. Nobody's ever really questioned that I'm over 19 (the drinking age here). I do look a lot younger when I take my beard off, but even that wasn't enough to get me carded the one time I tried going to the liquor store after shaving.

If there's any reason at all to suspect that they're underage, the cashier is indeed in danger of losing their job. A significant part of their job is screening out underage customers, and doing that effectively means leaving a solid margin for error. Really, it's not like having to show ID when you're not underage is a significant problem (my driver's license lives in my wallet 24/7, so if I'm spending money, I'm virtually guaranteed to have ID), so there's really no reason not to err on the side of caution.

Im almost always carded. I mean, I do look young, but Ive gotten alcohol from stores before without being carded before. But when buy one base, they basically have to card you. That being said, its possible they wouldnt if I were a regular. Like when I went to specific bars back home, I didnt get card. The weird thing is that I had never met him. But he knew my best friend and that we were the same age, I guess. It was a little creepy When we figured it out, but I didnt care to much...

Ive seen those stores. I think those are good because it means people shouldnt get mad about being asked for their IDs. They still will, but its probably less of a big deal.

On base, for certain places, they need our CAC (military ID) to scan. Like at the commissary (base grocery store)...

I've no issue with checking but when someone clearly is older it's a dumb thing todo. I even took my mask off to prove it. I've worked in retail so understand the risks of serving folk who are underage but I also understand I wouldn't ask a old lady for I.D. Oh well.

I was buying beer at a liquor store a couple weeks ago and set the beer on the counter and the guy just stared at me a few seconds and snootily asked "You gonna show me your I.D.?" I wasn't so much bothered by having to show it (I'm a week shy of 30 and look a bit younger, so it still happens sometimes), but the way he asked was just so rude. I almost put the beer back, because it wasn't even good beer. They didn't have a good selection. I haven't been there since. There's a grocery store that's closer to me that has a better selection that I opt for now.

Maybe they had an issue we some kids use make-up to make themselves look older... Possibly... Its probably not common. But it could happen. Or maybe they were told they have to check every ID or they would be fired. And maybe they saw someone get fired for not checking an ID of a clearly older person. Or maybe they were on thin ice and knew their boss wanted to fire them. So, they did everything right to make sure they didnt lose their job. I mean, I do understand that it can be bothersome for some people. But it is their job. And doing it correctly isnt a bad thing...

Asking for I.D for age restricted products to someone is is clearly over the age is the wrong way to sell age restricted products because they are turning away customers for the businesses for no good reason. If I looked underage they would have a point. I however clearly don't. Nothing more to be said.

They probably don't care about customers who get mad at them for following rules and laws. Especially since some places even say they require ID checks for anybody under a certain age. I think I use to see the signs in store that said anyone who looks under 40 or something would have their IDs checked. I'd rather have to show my ID instead of people guesstimating people's ages... Plus, again, it's probably store policy. And they would probably rather turn you away instead of losing their job...

Back in my teens and even early 20's I was asked for I.D frequently when buying tobacco and alcohol. No surprise really but some cashiers are really rude and obnoxious about it. This woman I'm talking about here was somewhat ok. When i told her my date or birth and shown the face under the mask she smiled at me in a "I don't believe you" type of manor and at that point I just told her I'll buy it elsewhere so it doesn't matter and left. Thankfully ours isn't that extreme. Challenge 25 is the deal here so if folk look under 25 the cashier could ask for I.D. Most don't bother asking me for I.D as they have common sense though. It's even better on self service where the machine worker just presses a button to green light the sale. Again if I looked underage I'd get it as I did in my teens and early 20's. I don't think I can pass for under 25 these days and whatever the case I'm over 18 obviously so they won't have some angry parent marching down or police officer questioning them.
