There is... a LOT of this.

Mostly female human protagonists falling in love with very very monstrous... monsters. Gargoyles, shadow beasts, shark men who are mostly sharks. Aliens that look like huge white preying mantises (this one is Axioms End)

So... uh... what is the appeal here? Im always a sucker for good fiction, but I imagine this goes a little deeper than Yeah, I can see the beautiful soul inside this monstrosity...

Its very funny to me that the Male reader x Female Monster fiction I see (written by men) always have the monsters look like normal women, but with, like, wings or horns.

Further proving that men are WEAK.

Well the most successful adult game has lots of monster on human (fenoxo's games, his patreon makes 32k a month, although there is a small team of people that he pays) so probably a lot.

These stories genuinely are not interested in making these thing seem even kinda human, in shape OR personality. That actually seems to be a huge turn off to this community. Like, they get upset that Beauty and the Beast ends with Beast turning into a human and dont stop talking about it.

Probably because straight men wrote them... I feel that the gay male x monster ones might be better. The straight men want monster, but still want a hot woman. Or at the very least that they could and would have sex with. So, they want them hot. And they want an easily locatable penis hole (AKA vagina)... I have a friend that helps with stories like these online, so I could ask him about it...

I could also elaborate on the sex stuff, too. But just remember, there's Bad Dragon which sells dildos that have a variety of shapes. Many being monster/alien dicks(I think they have a variety of fleshlights as well. But many of those are already very different, AFAIK). With female, if it came to sex scenes, as long as the monster have a penis, tentacle, or any outside extremity (possibly phallic shaped), they can stick it in them. With guys, there has to be a hole. From what I've seen, many straight guys assume anything going in the butt or mouth means that they're gay (even though some straight guys enjoy pegging, and a good amount don't mind a finger or tongue at their backdoor). So, no hole means no sex. If you try to stick a tentacle up a straight guy's butt, many people will get mad and assume that it's a gay story now and blah blah blah... So, maybe that... Well, and more often than not, I think women are pretty good with romance novels and stuff...

my sample size might not be super substantial, but as I understand it, these stories have been more about the ladies understanding the monsters, who have been driven to monsterhood because of public perception. I dont think its about taming so much. The monsters all seem to be very rational people, and all it takes to get them to soften up is genuine love.

Jordan Peterson makes lots of bad faith takes, so of course hes gonna day that women just want to own and control men.

I'm honestly betting some of it has to with visual vs text. Mechanically, sex is pretty damn simple and if you want to write a story with 30 sex scenes or something, things are gonna get real damn repetitive. Adding in some nonstandard appendages is a way to increase variety dramatically so you aren't just looking for your 50th way to phrase "and then it went in the hole".

When it comes to visuals, it's more directly stimulating so theres less need for variety. Additionally you have to actually SEE everything so if something might actually be gross you can't just not imagine that part as vividly and all sorts of things about visual beauty recognition and stuff like that.

That's my take on it. When I look at porn games, the text games that are successful seem to have an extreme variety (a lot of them seem to focus on physical transformations) and a lot of games where the women are the draw seem to be focused on visuals. Theres obviously some exceptions here and there but thats the trend I see.
