He's no Obama, why should I get excited for him?
His positions are almost all either a continuation or to the left of Obama's. He doesn't have Obama's youthful energy and has a lifetime's worth of politics under his belt, but his positions are strikingly similar to Obama's.

RchHomieQuanChi posted...
I mean it's not like what he said was meant to be super thought-provoking and deep, but he's right, at least when it comes to post-Trump America.

90% of the people you ask why they're voting for Biden, it's because they want Trump out of office. Nothing about his policies. And another 5% of people think Biden will be a return to the Obama years just because he was his VP.

I mean, it's impossible to deny that the center focus of discussion about Biden has more to do with getting Trump out than legitimate support for Biden. Even the people in this topic arguing against me aren't enthusiastic about Biden. So what does that tell you?
What actual positions of Biden's do you disagree with?
  • Criminal Justice reform
  • $15/hr minimum wage and inflation increases
  • Mandatory paid family and sick leave
  • Free A.A. from college
  • Numerous pro-environment policies
  • Expand Obamacare
Not to mention SCOTUS nominations, important cabinet positions (State, Treasury, Education, VA, Agriculture), ambassadors, as well as lower federal court judges.
Biden isn't just a return to Obama, it's a return to legitimacy and sanity. If Biden was McCain, Romney, Jeb, or Rubio I'd be pushing them too - but he's not, he's actually a Democrat. Biden's not an exciting candidate, he's an old career Democrat, but he is a sane one who will work for the country's best interests. If you can't stomach voting Biden, you shouldn't be able to stomach Obama.

As the right moves further right, the left moves further right to capture voters disenfranchised by the extreme right. This isn't some stupid graphic, GOP members are switching to Dem, Republican voters are staying home, and the Dems aren't fighting over the far left vote.
If you want the country to move left, you vote left, otherwise it will move right. And vice versa. Obama won twice, but since 2008 Dems have lost at least 5 times. You don't run a far right candidate in NYC and you don't run a far left candidate in Kentucky, but if the opposition is repugnant and your candidate is close enough you stand a chance.

Want the country to move left? Start winning, stop losing.

Democrats repeated the same mistakes of 2016 and are expecting different results. That is insane. Even without factoring in that Trump is fucking cheating and destroying our democracy.

Biden is perhaps the worst major party nominee (in terms of electability) in perhaps the entire nation's history. Elections are popularity contests. A senile old moron who was buddies with white supremacists and creeped on little girls on camera is NOT winning any popularity contests. His voting record is basically that of a Republican. He keeps talking about how he wants to keep working with Republicans. We're fucking sick of Republicans.

I could at least vote for Hillary because she knew not to play nice with Republicans. Biden spent his career sleeping with the enemies of America. He has been part of the problem.

People WILL not vote for Biden. Especially not during a pandemic. He offers the left nothing. Trump offers the right everything they've ever wanted. And he's fucking cheating in a naked fascist power grab.

Bernie Sanders was the correct choice. Both in 2016 and 2020. Now we're fucked.

Make no mistake: everyone who voted for Biden in the primary actually voted for Trump.

They support people's ability to choose. No one is going to make you have an abortion and Trump isn't going to stop it happening either. You might be surprised to find out how many he's had his various affairs have!

It WILL happen under Trump and IS happening under Trump right now. Don't fall for republican's arguments they will stop it, as they will just make it more difficult at best and have attempts repealed/rejected.

You can argue about whether or not it should be viewed as a human being and whether or not it should (or shouldnt have rights), but saying its not alive is silly.

The Democratic voters in the primary chose who they felt could best beat Trump. It sucks but this whole the DNC chose narrative is insanely tiring.

Bernie just didnt know how to unite voters. It sucks. Im still really mad about it. But pretending that people didnt vote for this is so fucking annoying.

Well, isn't that the problem? We're voting based on who we think can beat Trump, not who's best for the country.

So we always end up going with the safe moderate because we keep trying to compromise with Republicans (something Biden himself outright admitted he was going to do in office). Why are we still trying to compromise with Republicans at this point? We can already see with this COVID-19/unemployment situation that Republicans are unwilling to compromise and are literally willing to let people suffer if it means the Democratic Party doesn't get what they want.

Trump has spent his 4 years corrupting every institution he can and leaving the government apparatus in shambles. If he loses, hes going full scorched earth and whoever takes over has a tall order in putting the pieces back together.

In that sense, Biden, being a part of the last functional administration and having ties to those who were a part of it, is probably better equipped to handle the task of restoring a semblance of functionality to the government than anyone else.

So thinking about it like that, I can definitely get behind Biden and feel good about it. Any progressive would have had to spend their term cleaning up Trumps mess rather than advancing their agenda.

Make no mistake, I'm going out and voting Trump out of office.

However, I do not blame anyone for sitting this election out. The Democratic Party has repeatedly proved themselves to be completely tone deaf, and at the end of the day, it's their job to convince people that they'll do a good job in office.

A Trump re-election shows that they've failed to do that. That is not the failure of the American people. The system is suppose to work for us, not the other way around and at some point, we have to stop this toxic cycle of things being "expected" of the American people without anything being given back in return.

Or perhaps it will make the Democrats wake up.

People know Trump is horrible. What some of you dont seem to understand is that for millions, it was so bad before Trump that theyre willing to risk a repeat if it doesnt mean 50 more years of the status quo enabled by lesser of two evilism.

Whether or not you agree, try to imagine if your family were stuck in its 20th generation in the bottom tranche of an exploitative racist economic system. Try to empathize with those whove lost loved ones because liberals put corporate fundraising before free insulin.

Try to access one crumb of empathy for people who feel so low that they see this as a moment to draw a line in the sand and demand the Democrats do better than better than Trump.
