Gary Johnson got 2 votes for every 1 vote Jill Stein got. Hillary lost Michigan by 10k votes. If Democrats encouraged 3rd party voting in general, it would only have taken 30k 3rd party votes total (20k from Trump to Gary, 10k from Hillary to Stein) to give Hillary the win. That's 1% of the total vote.

Democrats hate 3rd parties so much that they would rather Trump win than give 3rd parties an extra 1% of the vote. Well, that was the case in 2016. Maybe in 2020 they are serious enough about beating Trump that they won't spent 95% of their energy attacking 1% of voters, who are actually helping them?

The GOP isn't any better in this regard. Here in AZ, lawmakers have done everything in their power to keep Libertarians off the ballot (although Greens can easily get on despite having like half as many registered voters)

Well Republicans will lose every election ever if the 3rd parties (which are largely weighted to the Libertarian party) grow in general, so that makes sense.

It's the Democrats who militantly oppose that result who don't make sense.

tell you the same thing I tell the idiot progressives that whine when they don't get 100% of what they want from the people at the top.

You want a third party to be taken seriously, they would need to be winning elections at a local level. Change starts from below.

Otherwise your vote is just going to be looked at as nothing from the major parties.

I worked collecting signatures for state level third parties in high school. It's a ridiculously steep hill they have to climb

Until we evolve beyond "first past the post" voting, they cannot succeed nationally and you should not vote for them nationally.

I used to believe both democrats and republicans were the same. After doing a lot of research, i realized they were not the same. Try to separate the personalities from the policies, because most politicians are annoying as hell.

Not "voting for the other guy" vs Trump basically means your ok fucking over a bunch of people because of...at this point I can't even contemplate the reasons for this.

Trump is at this point proven a danger to society, wants to take health care away from millions of Americans, emboldens racism across the country, and basically spits on whatever good we might have thought the constitution stood for.

If you don't have a problem with this and don't understand the need to remove him at all costs...well, I don't think very highly of you, obviously.

Otherwise your vote is just going to be looked at as nothing from the major parties.

The system is just not designed to accommodate a 3rd party. It takes a very specific climate for 3rd party candidates to win even local elections, let alone enough to have a sizeable base, and you know as well as I do that your suggestion is impossible.

I agree, but I also think it was just straight up incorrect (it was just that the harm was less obvious and more in setting up the long term decline of the US). I think you'd be hard pressed to find a person whose life hasn't been impacted by covid, though, so even the selfish assholes should be pissed at him.

Other countries had comparable GDP losses. The difference is that they got their outbreaks under control, and we didnt. So whereas those other countries economies can begin to recover, were sitting here not able to safely open schools and will probably be dealing with huge disruptions to normal life until a vaccine is widely deployed.
