Just want to say I'm enjoying these little write-ups & rating style so far !
Also I'm pleasantly surprised / relieved that my very pre-vgmc5-era-gamebop type of pick has not shown up yet. Though maybe I'll pull what azuarc did and have mine be the one to show up right after I say something. Still we've passed the point for me to be happy with wherever it would show up now, so ,,

Glad you're enjoying it so far! It's certainly been easier to maintain than a ranking of individual songs, where I need to say something about each one.

19. Ara Fell
Nominated by @dowolf
Average rating: 6.6
Overall thoughts: RPG-type songs with strong world music production.

34. Ghost of the Forest - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBb7OVZriQI [8]
54. Mighty Oaks - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY5BQ84HmqQ [7.5]
129. Moostone Dungeon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XH3A9qkouE [6]
133. Inyuna's Boss Battle - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdHDH6RxiP0 [6]
135. Asari's Song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXlPrQCj99w [5.5]

Lots of nifty world music-esque happenings in this set. Songs range from incredibly soft and lovely pieces that could belong in Hollow Knight (Mighty Oaks) to more upbeat, driving melodies (Inyunas Boss Battle). The set is diverse, but thematically consistent. Definitely feels like going on a journey.

Favorite song: Ghost of the Forest, aka Marimbafest 2020. This song is like walking through a misty, moss-filled grove full of wonder, with deer rumbling around and big caverns to explore. Thats sort of how the whole set feels, but Ghost of the Forest exemplifies it.

18. Koala Lumpur: Journey to the Edge
Nominated by @GameBopAdv
Average rating: 6.7
Overall thoughts: Very interesting OPL3 sounds.

50. The Land of Lost Things, Pipes (1) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG_5ic1xXCo [7.5]
58. The Land of Lost Things, Junk City (4) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRfFexhPRDk [7.5]
75. Space Station, Corridors (2) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAKthk8_BZA [7]
122. Space Station, Stingers (1) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCW1unClduc [6]
147. Lab (5) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlN_UixGqJM [5.5]

The OPL3 sound chip is often very hit or miss for me, but I generally enjoyed this eclectic set. Some tracks are more atmospheric than others, and some are more melodic. They all basically succeed at conveying a mood, a strong sense of exploration and adventure.

Favorite song: The Land of Lost Things, Pipes (1). This song struck me as a sort of proto-Banjo-Kazooie. It would fit in just fit in, say, Gobis Valley, with its synthesized xylophone and fun, galloping melody. I also enjoyed The Land of Lost Things, Junk City (4), a much different track: downtempo, moody, melancholic. This one took a bit to grow on me, but Im glad I didnt write it off right away.

17. Xenoblade Chronicles
Nominated by @ninkendo
Average rating: 6.7
Overall thoughts: Guitar/violin JRPG themes with an emphasis on intense rock.

26. Mechanical Rhythm - https://youtu.be/Q0W0VyaoZzY [8.5]
103. You Will Know Our Names - https://youtu.be/g7yNyhLOIa4 [6.5]
106. Engage the Enemy - https://youtu.be/xi0M9SIaLb4 [6.5]
111. Unfinished Business - https://youtu.be/LSCLbShOrA0 [6.5]
138. Gaur Plains - https://youtu.be/UDJtsfR51To [5.5]

Lots of battle themes here, with an emphasis on strings and guitar. The Xenoblade set is one of the only nominations where I was familiar with everything beforehand it seems like a nice, safe pick for the soundtrack and I liked basically all of it.

Favorite song: Mechanical Rhythm. A nice rockin song that gets right to the point seconds in and doesnt let up at any point. This is a full production here, with what amounts to an actual band, replete with a little breakdown near the end that quickly makes way for the great opening riff at the loop. Very fun, very high energy.

16. Spyro the Dragon
Nominated by @GavsEvans123
Average rating: 6.7
Overall thoughts: A very cool soundtrack that I appreciate more than enjoy.

51. Jacques - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbv4IThbwrw [7.5]
80. Dark Hollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhqNfvJLEss [7]
86. Ice Cavern - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoIgMfMfkgY [6.5]
90. Title Screen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvFRWKklC6c [6.5]
131. Doctor Shemp - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlS778H5ldg [6]

I tried soooo hard with this set. I love so much of what the songs do, but by and large they just werent clicking for me on an emotional level. I probably relistened to every song at least three times! This is consistent with my personal experience with this seriess music. I love the overall feel of the songs, I love the nifty percussion and almost world music-y vibe, but I just get stuck on the emotional engagement. Thats fine to me I rank songs I can feel higher than others, but there are always songs that dont fit that bill but still offer things I can objectively appreciate, if that makes sense. And there's a lot to appreciate here.

Favorite song: Jacques. Love the beat here, very chill but also very fast-paced at the same time. Feels sort of circus-y? Its a lot of fun to listen to. Great bass, great drums. Not much melody, but thats okay it excels in other areas.

Dang there goes Xenoblade, guess I agree with Gaur Plains placing on the lower end though

The LoL songs got ranked in the reverse order I expected...since you also like Dream Glow, maybe you should check out more Kpop songs! I didn't like most login themes at first, but I understand how they're supposed to work as character themes now, like Jhin's login representing a crazed artist whose ultimate expression is to admire people at their moment of death, with his "kill shot" coming at 1:30.

15. Star Control 2
Nominated by @NFUN
Average rating: 6.9
Overall thoughts: Funky tracker music.

12. Yehat - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOE-vVuBXKE [9]
13. Commander Hayes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXeMgY4gpQQ [9]
35. Supox - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHg4JWnlAXw [8]

172. Arilou Lalee'lay - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiBJlqGQqfM [2.5]

I was somewhat familiar with this soundtrack already, but it was good to get a highlights reel. This would be much higher were it for not the one outlier, which is basically just a beat and a repeated synth. Everything else was pretty great!

Favorite song: Yehat. I knew this one already. A shockingly emotional and still upbeat song. Shoutouts to the literal next ranked on the list, Commander Hayes, which is good, funky exercise music.

14. Hitman: Codename 47
Nominated by @SuperbVEVO
Average rating: 6.9
Overall thoughts: A broad spectrum of ambience.

4. Hong Kong Themes - https://youtu.be/vgJyGezg598 [9]
24. Jungle Exploration - https://youtu.be/xlPc8gc0D0w [8.5]
52. Hotel Music (Early Demo) - https://youtu.be/RvzCt3qMYEw [7.5]
134. Hospital Themes - https://youtu.be/COWdwUKiOqI [5.5]
157. Harbor Themes - https://youtu.be/NZnRMgmGlN4 [4]

The Hitman set started out incredibly strong with a top five song, but wound up also containing a bottom 20 song. The set is pretty much entirely ambient. Some of the songs drew me in to their worlds a bit more than others; while the bottom two mostly bored, the top three were engaging and powerful.

Favorite song: Hong Kong Themes. I love basically everything about this. The machine-like percussive effects with long-held notes fading in and out, plus there are like bongos or something. This song is great. It would probably have even made it to 9.5 territory but the last minute or so changes tack and isnt as engaging to me. Still, what a find!

Happy with my spot! I was expecting you'd be more receptive to this kind of VGM than most others and I'm glad to hear you got enjoyment out of it.

And great observation about the songs drawing one into the world. This isn't world music at all but it sounds worldly, like it's enveloping you into its atmosphere.

I've been in love with how these songs progress for ages now (this is my favourite OST after all) and I just can't seem to find anything quite like it.

Was hoping Harbor Themes would do better with you for being very much the darkest theme in the game, but hey, you can't have everything! Thanks for listening. :>

13. Little Busters!
Nominated by @loweffortmemes
Average rating: 6.9
Overall thoughts: Peaceful ambience, except for one song which is totally evil.

19. Born Into This World - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cikD4AvGuH4 [8.5]
31. Nothing Happened In This World - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ST3MdFDV-4 [8]
98. Parhelion - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trT2hnnMyTw [6.5]
127. Thin Chronicle - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6xvttRivjQ [6]
143. Regret - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j9h0brgn4k [5.5]

Most of these songs are generally soft and sad/wistful. Some of them didnt click, but the ones at the top were really solid. Interesting to see such a contrast between the more melodic ambience of this set and the more atmosphere Hitman songs.

Favorite song: Born Into This World. Very soothing, somewhat sad piano. Very, very pretty. I could see this playing in a big emotional moment. Shoutouts to Nothing Happened in This World, an evil-sounding track that kept my attention for its entire seven minutes. I have a feeling there arent many here who wouldve given it a high score. Im glad you submitted to me.

Nominated by @DireKrow
Average rating: 7
Overall thoughts: Nifty composition, lush sounds.

5. Pioneer's Horizon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjFxSyycX_8 [9]
76. Unbridled Determination - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JMaQyFpwsM [7]
88. Echoes of the Forgotten - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpLzhrL5VoQ [6.5]
107. Surpassing Authority - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x2D2sU0x7E [6.5]
113. Barren Corridors - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5SiU4Uc_A4 [6]

The Timespinner set has really lovely melodies and composition. Echoes of the Forgotten in particular sounds like a remix of a classical song. A few of the songs had a lead instrument that I found too loud/not properly integrated with the rest of the production, but by and large this was a solid set. Were at 7+ now, so theyre all going to be really solid from here on!

Favorite song: Pioneers Horizon. Boy did I love this. Everything flows together really beautifully and organically, with a wonderful balance of instruments. I would love to hear a live version of this!

I think the best word to describe this is fresh. Listening to this felt like experiencing a Katamari soundtrack for the first time, or like biting into a crisp apple. Very unique and fun.

Favorite song: SANA MOLLETE NE ENTE -B.L.T. STYLE-. Hey, its that song from the crowdsourced list! This definitely feels Katamari not the original, but a later installment. Slow-paced and loungey with big brass hits, it engages me every time.

10. Bug Fables
Nominated by @Zigzagoon
Average rating: 7.1
Overall thoughts: Nice, melodic soundtrack with a retro feel.

40. Termite Capitol - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oILKKd80Hyg [8]

96. MECHA BEE DESTROYER BLASTLORD - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6vtGV4ehR0 [6.5]

I cant decide what sound chip Bug Fables reminds me of. Most of the time it feels very DS-esque, but there are occasional surprises. Its a fun set, with pop (Team, This Ones Stronger), a battle theme (Reckless for Glory), and the Power Rangers theme (MECHA BEE DESTROYER BLASTLORD). My favorite song from this game at least that Ive heard wasnt used though:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_OSyr3IwAU

Very different feel from the rest.

Favorite song: Termite Capitol. This song is what would happens if you combine a hip-hop beat with a Wind Waker harp and play it out of a DS. I dont know that sounds amazing or horrible to you, but to me it sounds great!

9. Sonic Shuffle
Nominated by @Toxtricity
Average rating: 7.3
Overall thoughts: A variety of unique sounds that expand the idea of what Sonic music can sound like.

20. Dark Sharpener - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YgDg4Td04w [8.5]
56. Happy Honour - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ8bZhu3Gls [7.5]
61. Intro - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMEqU2j8bhc [7.5]
66. Rave About Me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dyZnDGOKmw [7]
119. Wild Growth - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI-AFrzUaHM [6]

I was especially looking forward to the Sonic Shuffle set because of the soundtracks reputation as a weirdness magnet, and in that respect it certainly delivered. Highlights included the crystally sounds of Intro, the mechanical/industrial feel of Rave About Me, and the...whatever Happy Honour is (my note for that just reads haha this is great).

Favorite song: Dark Sharpener. Some might think this is a fairly timid offering compared to the rest of the set, but I love it! Its so creepy, like youre walking through some sort of corrupted Disney haunted house.

Wow! I really didn't expect this to score this high. It was my favorite soundtrack for most of the 2nd half of the 2010s (in 2020 has now been replaced with pso2 but this is still a strong 2nd place), still BY FAR my favorite sonic soundtrack (and i love sonic music to begin with) and one of my favorite sets of music ever devised. I'm glad someone else can appreciate it, because finding others who understand why I love it so much can be difficult sometimes!

I'm curious how this one would've done, in hindsight i feel like you'd have liked it more than a lot of the offerings and I found myself regretting picking Rave About Me instead of this which would've been in place of it:

Some really jaunty chiptune action here. Its clear that this is modern chip, but it has a lot of that retro flavor I enjoy. A big reason why I dislike a lot of retraux is it lacks the precise composition that makes the old chip I love so enjoyable for me. But I liked these tracks; they have a lot of personality. Progress feels a bit ragtimey in places, Skyboss is a solid boss-type theme that has dropping out of a parachute noises incorporated into it, and Jazzy Ghosts is basically as advertised. The only one I wasnt as into was Egyptian Temple, which was a bit too sparse for my liking.

Favorite song: Action . This is a bubbly pop song, all about going on an adventure. I can see this playing in some sort of overworld or first area section it fits perfectly. Its also a lot of fun to listen to!

Great soundtrack to a very underappreciated game.

This was in reference to Sonic Shuffle.

I'm glad I got to experience a little bit of it. Honestly I didn't know what to expect from "general weirdness" so it was cool to listen to.

Eliminator is probably in the 7-8 range. Neat track!

You pretty much nailed the reason why I nominated this game. You said in your original post that you liked chiptunes, which more often than not invokes thoughts of older games. So I picked a rare example of modern chiptunes, and one that doesn't sound as "fake" as a lot of retro-imitation games.

7. Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland
Nominated by @Arti
Average rating: 7.4
Overall thoughts: Strings, woodwinds, and piano paint lush, evocative pictures.

10. Devil's Tango - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_LXIFX2M2M [9]
43. The Ancient Tree's Beat - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZrUqNaul00 [7.5]
46. Cyclone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g76BQx3dWRg [7.5]
91. Silent Undersea Ruins - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfRJxoJkhD0 [6.5]
101. Dark Domain - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X21ig41AFe4 [6.5]

Ive been pretty hit or miss with Atelier music. Most of my exposure to the series has come from VGMC, which doesnt always align with my taste. The Rorona set was pretty solid though! Youve got The Ancient Trees Beat, which is all about big production and big chords and big emotion, compared with something like Cyclone (the first song I listened to for this), which is more energetic but still has this big world music production. One of the neat things about this ranking was seeing diverse songs that landed in the same umbrella of style, and thats very much on display here.

Favorite song: Devils Tango. From an organ start, this song then heads into a full-spirited tango (as befitting the name), with prominent accordion and string backing and chanting, and then a more subdued piano bridge. Very cool find, for whatever reason I never would have pegged this to come out of this series.

Haha, your safe bet paid off! Though my taste is very unpredictable so there aren't really any safe bets when it comes to me (witness the tracker soundtrack getting next to last place).

There is a large gap in overall rating between everything until now and the top six.

Just to recap, number 7 (Atelier Rorona) had an overall rating of 7.4.

Numbers 6 and 5 have 7.7. Tie is broken by lowest ranked song.

Then then there's an even larger gap with the top four, which goes:
8.1, 8.3, 8.4, and 8.6.

Basically we're in the truly upper leagues. It's unlikely that there's a song left that I didn't enjoy on a somewhat meaningful level.

6. Megido 72
Nominated by @banshiryuu
Average rating: 7.7
Overall thoughts: Powerful jazzpop with shades of Hamauzu.

18. Incarnate Dance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97ybPaUawC4 [8.5]
23. Chain World -Combat- - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvUjJBF4b4k [8.5]
49. Fighting for the Sake of Others - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDvq20V_VC4 [7.5]
65. Exile Upper Ground - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PE_m1BsCH0 [7]
81. Crafty Reverse Moon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyB_DR4Bcfw [7]

Up next on games Ive never heard of, we have Megido 72, with angrily crying people as its backdrop. For a game with such an intense image, the music isnt nearly as heavy as Id expect. Chain World -Combat- I would even go as far as to call fun, with poppy vocals and Hamauzu-like production (it wouldnt surprise me if I found out he composed this). Fighting for the Sake of Others is likewise a battle theme with airy vocals that help it feel lighter (also what on earth is this tempo change goodness gracious). Even the darker tracks like Crafty Reverse Moon are uniquely light and airy.

Favorite song: Incarnate Dance. Easily my favorite of the set, and its probably the most intense track of them all, probably the one that best fits the ANGRY CRY going on in the image. Some forceful strings and a terrific melody really sell this one.

Glad you liked it! Most of the Atelier songs that get into VGMC are from Ayesha onwards (and Rorona Plus is included in that) but Rorona's OST is definitely one of my favorites. These tracks all were in my BOST 5 nomination but the less said about that contest, the better.

I do miss Ken Nakagawa composing in Atelier, he seems to have stopped, just coming back for Nelke and Lulua probably for continuity. I don't remember any songs being similar to Devil's Tango in any other Atelier game which is kind of a shame, as it's one of my favorite tracks from the OST. Most bosses now get themes similar to Sky of Twilight from Escha & Logy instead of anything like this, and while I like that song as well, it would be nice to see more songs in this style.
