The only reason I learned about them in the first place is that one went to college with me for a short amount of time. Off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you which (but a little bit of thinking about it makes me think it's Logan?).

But yeah, kids know who they are, even if they don't like them, so they get mentioned every once in awhile.

Oh, wow. Apparently the charges for him and his buddies looting was dismissed without prejudice TODAY. So the FBI got it dropped, then immediately got a federal warrant and raided his home. They were fucking serious.

I just looked him up and apparently he also got in trouble for having a gigantic party on July 11 and nobody following COVID guidelines during it, and he'll be getting nailed with fines for it.

What a fabulous piece of shit.

As for why, sometimes the existence of an ongoing investigation can interfere with the ability to investigate/obtain evidence for another investigation when they are being handled by different jurisdictions.

I don't know PRECISELY, but here is my understanding of it coupled with my background in civil law.

It is likely that in the state investigation for looting that they found something serious in that. As a result, the federal government has a lot less restrictions than a state government, which is why they could send the FBI in there to raid him. I believe they would need to wait for the case to end before they could do a federal investigation and charge him for whatever takes precedent under federal jurisdiction.

Federal charges are typically a bigger deal, as they involve crimes against US rather than crimes against the State of California. So they more or less just dismissed the state case with prejudice, which means it is dismissed but can be picked up again, so they can conduct what is likely a more intensive investigation unimpeded by the state case.

Youtube content seems like the same kind of bottom of the barrel entertainment that actual boomers consumed- low quality television programs about home videos, pranks, reality television, talk shows, countdown lists, etc. The truth is that knowledge of popular entertainers has nothing to do with age, and everything to do with how much you pay attention to pop culture. It is easier to pay attention to such things as a youth, but I am positive my own boomer mother has a greater knowledge of current pop culture than I do, so age is far from the only factor at play.

It's not specifically about watching. People retweet and like other's tweets, follow each other on IG, talk about other people. You also get exposed to it through creators shitting on them. Some of the Paul's songs are hilariously awful in a "I need to see this" way.

Honestly I don't watch a lot of Youtube anymore, but I did watch a whole bunch of No Jumper, Casey, and H3 when I did. I still follow their social media and therefore see who they interact with.

'It's Everyday Bro' is one of Jake Paul's songs that was everywhere when it came out because of how unintentionally hilarious it was. Worth a listen for sure.

I've never actually watched a Jake or Logan Paul video other than those aforementioned songs.

Twitter isn't even a zoomer app and Jake Paul is/was trending because of this event. This is far from the first time either have them have been trending. That being said, I'm well under 30 myself, and while I had heard of the Pauls and knew they were divisive YouTube content creators before the last topic about them, I couldn't have told you the first thing about them otherwise.

I have heard of the name before and I knew he was some sort of YouTuber but only because of it being posted on Facebook about him fighting KSI (who I also couldn't tell you what he's famous for) and that the headlines would frequently include he was a YouTuber.

I literally couldn't tell you what he puts out on YouTube though.
