Other companies are charging 20$ for a single rental of things like Trolls World Tour. Its a brand new movie and they have to make money somehow.

yes that seems expensive, but theyre expecting you to only watch it when you have your whole family with you, like a family movie night you would have spent at the movie theaters. And that would have been 3x as expensive

this is probably going to be the new standard if they start automatically releasing movies like this on demand.

Link well if you are talking average american house hold lets break that down
15 dollars per adult x2
10 child ticket x2
Large drink 3.00 x2
Small drink 2.50 x2
Large popcorn 5.00 x2 (a adults share and kids share)
Snack generic (pretzel hotdog etc) 2.50 x2

Thats around 75.00 dollar. Dont forget the arcade and other items that are sold as well. 100.00 could very well be for a standard house hold of 4

It must be the pricing and amounts. I think it's $10 for adults here, and I think $7 or $8 for children. I can't remember the drink prices, because they vary greatly from theater to theater. I think we would all usually share one popcorn. And usually, no really get other snacks. So, for me, using that pricing, it would break down to about $52...

They used to have 5-6$ tuesdays I think it was (might have the day wrong), and most theaters are matinie prices before 4pm, so anyone who wants to can see the movie for less (was $8 here I think).

Even saying an average of 2 people is watching the movie (obviously more for kids shows), thats like $18, and they used to release straight to video for $15....which made some kinda sense.

$30 is rediculous, I mean even with THOSE movie prices above many of us waited for Video cause DvDexpress is less then $1 to see the movie (2 movies a month), and the other 2 weeks you can get buy one get 1 free for $2 (so 1$ a movie but you gotta rent two).

Even redbox is like $3 or less, and they release on dvd like 3 months after the theaters most of the time now..

Will I pay $6 to see a movie....MAAAAYBE but only at one of the comfy theaters mind you, and I never buy snacks or drinks there (I sneak em in if I have any). I'm more comfy at home and I have plenty to watch so I don't mind waiting, and half the time the movies end up on one of the services I alternate between that streams crap.

I wouldn't watch bill and teds 3 for $30, um, can't think of any other movies i'm looking forward to right now. I wouldn't watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3 for $30, just plain not any movie I'd pay that much. In fact, I have not paid $15 for any movie either.

Hold up for a second.
The price of snacks, drinks, arcade, etc. shouldn't be factored in at all.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but movie theaters make almost nothing from ticket sales. Their main source of revenue is from their concessions.

Yeah. You probably shouldn't count food and drinks in with the price unless you also count the food and drinks price for the stuff in your house, as well...

Again just saying theater to home is still 500 dollars with some companies. The thirty dollars is pricey but consider this was the playgound for the rich and not for the everyday man/woman. The idea of a private screening room is unheard of for most families who arent on hgtv with jobs like artisian guinea pig milk cheese maker and roomba psychotherapist.

Yeah. But isn't that a whole home theater. And the price on it starting is like $35,000. At that price, you probably have money to spare. And you could theoretically sell tickets to enter you home, and just have guess go to the theater room to watch the movie. So, depending on how big the room is, you could make the money back...

Idk. My cousin's family isn't rich, but well off, I'd say. They have a theater room in the basement. And it would actually be pretty easy to make for any basement. Haha.

Releasing like this on Disney+ is a mistake. Thing is streaming subscription services are standardized now and none have individual purchase content, people expect them to be include everything. If they did this through other video services (VUDU, etc) I think it'd go over smoother, as other movies have already done it.

When Mulan shows up front and center on the Disney+ home page and people are met with a paywall after clicking...it won't be well received. Even worse, if Disney+ saves and uses your sub payment info it could lead to mistaken purchases from those that don't realize what's happening. I fully expect some amount of PR disaster from this once it goes live.

Maybe average - I understand some of you live in expensive places - but tickets are only $4 here before 5PM, children under 12 are $2. Your drinks/popcorn seem ok.

$12 tickets + $10 popcorn + $6 for two large drinks and I'm seeing that movie for $28 in theater - so $30 is pretty close. Probably a 'steal' for people who don't have a nice theater like I do.

The thing that really kills me is not only do you have to have a Disney+ subscription, but the $30 unlocks Mulan as long as you keep your subscription up to date. If you miss a monthly payment or cancel and start your service again - you lose Mulan and have to purchase it again. Bad business IMO and Disney hasn't put out a quality movie in two decades, so I'm going to skip it. (Not getting Disney+ anyway)

The $30 is steep and I've seen people try to justify it with the movie theater expenses, but keep in mind that it's not like Disney gets most of that movie theater money anyway. The theater is pocketing most of the ticket money, the theater is the one making money on the refreshments, etc. The money per customer that Disney receives as a result of this transaction is far higher than they would have at theaters.

so it is still a rental but its available to watch for as long as you have disney+

which is kinda strange in itself since youd think after a few months it would just be added to the regular library of content

still I think well shell out the $30 and make it a sort of home movie theater night for the family, not as many things like that to look forward to nowadays
