It was obvious to literally everybody BUT Sir Chris and gravy- the two supporting him that contest- that Adelbert Steiner was not only going to win by the top third (some even say the top half, but I disagree with it being blatantly obvious THAT dang early), but crush the competition like an avalanche, landslide, and tsunami all in one.

I'm still bitter about the choice to bring Lightning to that final over Sephiroth for the record: not because I care about Lightning's legacy, but because I worked really hard for Sephy that year and if whomever was chosen to face off was just going to be a sacrificial lamb being led to the slaughter anyway I had hoped it would be someone who hasn't been there before because runner ups tend to fare better than 3rd place finishers. I mean look at Lightning's subsequent placements vs. Selphie's. Minwu's. ... Sephiroth's .

I feel like his glory days are over with barreldragon and Numbers both abstaining, and Xuxon and Lopen focusing on other projects. Even though he's my favorite villain even I couldn't bring myself to make him my sole push because 1) Been there done that, 2) AFAIK I'm the only one doing YotV, and I knew damn well I couldn't do it alone, and 3) I figured with umpteen other characters to protect the VII savers would let Sephiroth skip through the cracks. Self fulfilling prophecy I suppose.

I knew but gravy's anxiety demanded more and more and i am nothing if not good at what I do.

Mm well it's a start, but you need I would say at least two dedicated savers from the jump to get a run like that last one: one dedicated to actually saving him in the beginning when free saves are needed to advance, and one dedicated to trading for him when the going starts getting rough. That was barrel and I respectively. I can't recall when Numbers and Lopen joined in, but it was definitely later on- maybe at the midway point? We might have had Xuxon join in late game too. It's been too long, I can't remember. Charon surely joined in after Seymour perished as well.

That's the thing about a train, you kinda gotta keep it rolling long enough for people to hop on, it's not just gonna happen with the main person that wants it to happen farting around with Cissnei and the rest of the VII supporters spread WAY too thin. Sorry, but sacrifices must be made... That said, though I'm not the one willing to conduct it again I wouldn't mind hopping on a Sephiroth if my YRP plans fall through. Something to keep in mind I guess.

yeah the thing is, and the reason my investment is extremely low in this thing these days, is there's always a chance of a round just going up when i'm fast asleep, and I just don't care enough to set alarms or stay awake late. it's why i don't make trade deals til very late and why I don't care to do anything strategic besides saving my favourite final fantasy character

i guess what i'm saying is don't count on me (to let you know when)

Lol, fair enough. Barrel was casual too for the most part, but he alone got Sephiroth through the boots so I could focus on keeping my pet project alive until the next time I could focus on him. Then I went in HARD for Sephy and *only Sephy. That was the compromise and it worked.

Poor Sephiroth, his glory days really ARE behind him.

Disclaimer: *It may not have been only Sephy. Again it's been a while, and I can't remember. Regardless though it was pretty clear after boot rounds ended that Sephiroth was my primary.

All I remember is you had some crazy condition that you couldn't save Tidus under any circumstances which never made sense to me

and then I put a curse on barrel for pulling a top 10 anime betrayal and costing Locke the title a few years later #neverforget

Yeah I should have been more clear. I know that part, I just don't know why anyone would make that part of a deal. I understand not being able to save him if Sephiroth is unsafe or something but like, she couldn't even save Tidus as a trade. It was just really weird to me

"Farting around with Cissnei" eh... well I didn't learn my lesson after saying this in XX and XXI but third time's the charm. I'd like to get her to at least 55th place before abandoning her, but we'll see. It's still hard to let go but it'll happen this year (can she outlast Cloud and keep the prophecy intact, though?)

Also, unironically, Sephiroth is a remake deboost for me, probably the only character. Any support I give him is more due to the contest itself and the previous games.

I want to say next year he'll take Tifa's place in my queue but maybe Tifa will be the new Cissnei, eh... we'll see what happens.

Just feels like so many people who'd help and are board regulars don't participate or used to but don't anymore. I remember someone saying once that Vlado was a Tifa supporter? Surely he played the remake, gotta get him back in here...

I'm pretty sure I've supported Sephiroth since from before you even saved in these lol

I don't go hard on him but I don't go hard on anyone really I'm good for one save more often than not and that's it. I mean I don't save Seph in early rounds often cause he doesn't really need the saves usually (and cause I tend to miss a lot of early rounds) but if he's there late in the round I'll throw him one.

When it comes to SMFFFC, MWC has this weird childlike naivety where he can't seem to understand how annoying he is and how much we don't like him. I think that's why he's never managed to put people off characters he supports.

I literally do not care about how any particular character does in this contest. I view it (the contest and also the reverence all it's participants give to it and it's history) as incredibly silly.
