It's downloading on my Switch now, I'm excited!

I've always heard amazing things about this series but I never had a DS or GBA to play them.

I've actually never even seen any gameplay outside of maybe an old episode of X-Play on G4. So I really have no idea what I'm in for but I love courtroom shit.

Any non-spoiler tips before I start?

I've been meaning to give the original trilogy a replay. It's been like 12 years at this point.

Examine literally everything during investigation phases, that's where you get some of the funnier dialogue outside of the courtroom. Speaking of investigations, make sure to present your badge at every opportunity you get. It's one of the funnier running gags imo.

I love these games, I've replayed them more than any other. If possible I'd advice you play the DS versions of the games though. The "remaster" ports for home consoles (and iOS and 3DS) took the great pixelart and overlayed it with drawing style animation that at times look like a five-year-old could be responsible for. The artstyle is significantly poorer than the "original" releases.

In terms of tips I'd say, don't get too bogged down if things don't make the most of sense and just go with the flow. The series sometimes like to take leaps of logic. Also I don't remember if the current gen ports revamped the save system, but for the older versions at least, you should save a lot.

I haven't played the remastered versions but this should still be accurate: If you're forced to pick an option but the game isn't showing your healthbar at the time it means you won't be penalized for picking the wrong answer so feel free to pick one of the more dumb sounding answers, these usually lead to some great interactions.

I love this series but never got around to finishing Spirit of Justice so I've just started replaying that myself. Enjoy my friend!

Even some of the penalized answers can be hilarious. In Justice for All case 3, try telling the judge that the murder weapon is under his chair. Probably the funniest penalty in the series.

In the future, I heavily recommend not googling anything Phoenix Wright related at all, there are so many spoilers out there and the game is so good if you can get through it blind

Love these games. Just be careful with your lifebar in the 2nd and 3rd game, as there are points at which it doesn't refill for a while, IIRC.

Damnit it's my first cross examination and I'm already stumped. This smiling newspaper salesman son of a bitch's story is rock solid! Her electricity was out so he couldn't use the phone, he has a reason to be at the scene, he even has the exact time he was there which coincides with the power outage and explains why the phone wasn't working.

Another tip, press everything. Even if you immediately know the answer, press everything because you often get funny dialog. Also if you don't know, pressing will give hints or even give you all new lines added to the testimony. When that happens, that new line is (always?) the line you have to contradict.

That's 95% of the gameplay, in court at least. Comparing the witness statements to the court record and pointing out contradictions hard enough to make your sidekick's boobs bounce. Sometimes its easier than others, so don't expect as much handholding as you're getting right now.

And yeah, it's great.
