I asked her how she was doing and she said "Oh, I'm.. still alive" and then that's when I noticed both eyes had tears in them and she was trying to wipe them away. She knew I noticed, so she said that she got into it with a customer a little earlier and he was very rude to her.

I can't imagine what she's going through.. having to wear a mask all day and deal with a very rude customer that finally broke her today.

Please remember to be nice to all retail/food workers when you're out and about. I feel so fortunate I can work at home and don't have to wear a mask all day, much less do that and put up with rude people as well.

Kids are getting softer. When I worked in restaurants, wed use the angry customers as funny jokes later.

I get being sad because of a customer thats struggling or tells a sad story.

But a no life getting mad at a minimum wage worker? That shit is funny. Not hurtful.

Everyone has a bad day and if you're already feeling upset, someone can say something to you that will push you over the edge emotionally and elicit an emotional response (in her case, tears)

I don't know if it was him just getting angry. He could have said something about her personally.

I'm mixed on the whole mask thing. But even if I were totally against it, what does that have to do with anything? Masks are required especially for employees. It's not really her choice if she wants a job. Not sure what's not believable.

Because it sucks wearing a mask all day. I know I wouldn't like it. And I know a lot of other workers don't like it because I've talked to some of them about it.

How would you like to wear a mask for 8 hours, only being able to take it off occasionally?

I mentioned it because I thought to myself.. damn.. not only does she have to wear a mask all day, but day after day after day because it's her job... then she has to put up with someone who made her cry on top of it all.

I think you two are reading too much into it.

It sucks wearing a mask all day, dude. No one I talked to said "yeah masks suck, but so does standing". They said they hate wearing masks. I've also heard (from workers) that it's making a lot of the women break out.

Clearly it's an issue that probably adds to discomfort and stress.

For a while there, they were actually pretty nice and understanding.

But now it seems like theyre just as bad as usual, if not worse.

Try it yourself. Spark up a conversation over the next week with 10 different workers at a store, restaurant or drive through and tell me what they think about wearing a mask and what their reactions are about having to wear a mask. The ones I've talked to mostly hate it. Feel free to report back to me if you actually do it and are honest about it.

I was once in a mcdonald's drivethru behind a woman who was screaming into the window from her van:

"I'm a baller, you a worker, BITCH!" and she repeated it about a thousand times. After she pulled off, I asked the employee what that lady was yelling about. Apparently that location wouldn't take her $1 off Big Mac coupon and she flipped out.

retail sucks more than restaurants because they usually discourage fraterning among the employees. most of them are corporate owned, too, so some people know that they can't respond in kind and take their day out on the retail workers.

A lot of people most definitely hate wearing masks. I hate wearing them myself just from shopping for about 30 minutes in the store. I either have to wear my glasses at the very tip of my nose or walk around with perpetually fogged up glasses, either way my vision is restricted. Then it itches my facial hair and around my ears.

Now I still wear it because I know it's the right thing to do but, shocker I know, many people hate wearing them.

Yeah, I'm a retail worker myself and I don't like wearing a mask either. But I do it anyway for the safety of myself and others even though it's required.

Some customers get really nasty about this stuff, but thankfully most are understanding.

I always try to be very kind to people who are in the service industry, and try to remember - with ALL people - that you have absolutely no idea what may be going on in their life. I know there have certainly been times when I've appreciated the benefit of the doubt.

That said, I have also seen some legit stupid workers or people who have no shits to give, and it's frustrating when it affects their job performance (beyond simple mistakes) or your experience as a consumer. I still wouldn't lash out them publicly for it because that's not my style, but sometimes criticism is warranted.

You're just virtue signaling. If you actually cared, you'd care about how they're out risking themselves in a pandemic for unlivable wages more than pretending to be concerned about how a mask feels because you're anti mask and it fits your position
