This is a joke right? You do know that you basically need a third party controller to do it since it becomes frame perfect?

Seriously it can be done with a standard SNES controller. I usually count the jumps and notice the timing changes after so many, adjust, try again, adjust for any other timing changes, 100 jumps before first star. I level grind before croco so I've got super jump handy.

honestly as Ive been playing, i keep thinking how much this game would benefit from the hindsight a remake could make. I still only have 3 characters but I think having all 5 party members battle at once wouldve been fun. As well as more lively cutscenes, to match the good humour of this game so far. Not really fair for me to expect all that from a first-of-its-kind game from 1996 (or whenever it came out), but its just stuff Ive noticed

I like the pantomiming they make Mario do through out the game to have him explain stuff to NPCs or little mechanics jokes like the party members trying to "enter" Mario's sprite but tumbling out and jostling Mario in the process. Or how they portray Bowser as this loser that tries to act tough constantly.

This game just has a lot of fun charm to it >_> But I can't see them doing those things justice in a remake with a new graphics style. Some of this stuff was made for the sprites art

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already, but throughout the game some areas have hidden treasures boxes which will only be made visible by hitting them. The only way to tell what areas have them is by equipping an item called the Signal Ring. Which you don't get until later on. However one of the hidden boxes is in the first hallway of the Mushroom Kingdom castle and the only way to reach it is to jump on Toad's head and then when he reaches the doorway, jump to the platform above the doorway. This can only attempted the first time Mario enters the castle. Way before you even get that ring and find out there's a hidden box.

yeah the scene played out automatically when I entered the house, I wouldve gone anyway cuz of the story implications. Havent played today yet so Im still just chilling upstairs with Link

i like how Geno was like I inhabited this doll because it looked like the strongest one while Bowser and Mario dolls were right there

Later on there will be expensive stuff you can buy, like a gameboy for 500 coins or a power star for 800 coins. The game just constantly throws money at you, especially in the sunken ship

Just got 20 points in the goomba stomping minigame, but that was absolutely horrible to do with this isometric perspective. Are the rest of the prizes worth it? 24 points required, etc

They way I did it was just stand one 1 pipe the whole time and jump on every goomba from that 1 pipe. If you see a spiny, then kinda swerve off the pipe if you already commited to the jump.

The prizes are:
1st time - Flower Tab
2nd time - Flower Jar
3rd and onwards - 1 frog coin

They add 2 points to the record every time you break it but you don't want to break it too hard or you'll get some super high number early >_> Just get the minimum and stop there if you have time left. Usually I just get the 2 flower items and move on

Yeah, you use the cookies to race Boshi and if you win, you get the ability add cookies to your inventory and bet cookies on races. The Yoshi cookies act as an item morph for enemies and certain enemies have a chance of morphing into certain items. If it fails or you use it on bosses, you get a Yoshi Candy as a consolation prize, which heals 100 HP.

Racing is weird, but you DON'T mash A and B, you gotta do it in a rhythm to the drumbeat in the background. The Y button is kind of a turbo boost but it isn't too useful imo >_> Once you beat Boshi, you get the option to bet up to 9 cookies on Yoshi races. Either you can race Yoshi yourself or watch him race automatically. Extra cookies you get stored by one of the red yoshis. Later on, there's a baby yoshi that hatches that you gotta feed a certain amount of cookies to grow up, and then after it grows up, you feed it cookies to gain rare items.

That's the gist of how Yoshi's and racing works. Fun fact: you can hit Y while riding the Yoshi to jump and if you're facing diagonal, he'll stick his tongue out. It doesn't do anything though >_> Maybe it was a cut feature for something?

Yoshi racing is completely optional btw and I totally understand if you don't want to bother with it. The rewards really aren't worth it >_> It's just a fun side activity if you can actually beat the first race.

Don't worry. As an adult I still can't figure it out. I don't know what went wrong but it's impossible to do this flawlessly and it clearly doesn't work as the game says it should.

Yeah, it's dumb. They just made it to show off mode 7 like every SNES did.

3 things just unlocked now. A mole in one of the houses will take items for points and you can use those points to buy elemental bombs. But they suck and you shouldn't use them >_>

The 2nd is that another mole a different house will start selling fireworks for 500 coins. If you want to fight the secret super boss, you want to buy the fireworks and then trade them to the child outside for a "shiny stone", but you can do that later when you actually get to the town with the super boss. Also, every time you buy a firework from him, he increases the firework effect used in the very end of the game during the credits. You can buy up to 5 to maximize it.

After you unlock the door to the super boss, you can trade the shiny stone for a carbo cookie in the item store, and then use that to bribe a mole kid off her bucket and use that bucket to get 1 free ride to the Midas river mini game. Not really worth 500 but it's there if you want to try that <_<

The real prize is that a Toad set up shop in the item store and will sell you 3 things throughout the course of the game. The first thing he sells you is a lucky jewel that when used in battle, immediately grants you the lucky status, but it get destroyed forever after 10 uses. I think he gets the 2nd item after you get the 5th star, and the 3rd item after the 6th star. The 3rd item is really really important because it's Peach's best weapon in the game >_> So be sure to pick that up when it appears.

There's also Zelda and Link cameos at the inns but only during certain points in the game. And Stars can be used to automatically level up without fighting, if you get a Game Over, you keep the experience and can use the Star again, the last one is at Barrel Volcano.

And no need to bother with Flower Tabs/Jars or Inns to refill FP, you can go to Mario's Pad to heal for free anytime, the only Inn that's worth going to is Marrymore's Suite, if you stay multiple nights without paying, you're forced to get a job paying them back and can get tips like Flower Tabs and Frog Coins.

I don't know the specifics but I heard it's full of errors like they get names wrong, or straight up tell you stuff that isn't in the game or the wrong steps to get something.

There's that frog coin that can only be obtained once, before you even know frog coins exist.

I got to the point right when you get mallow I think (or Geno, whichever you get second because I know I had them both but I forget which order you get them)

I quit after that though. Just didnt hold up to Paper Mario to me >.>

In front of Booster Tower. Between this and M&L, I love how much character the RPGs give to Bowser. Havent played a paper Mario game but I cant wait to get into those too

Also I hate how Wario and Waluigi never get acknowledged in the rpgs. So many missed opportunities. Booster looks exactly like Wario so I hope he at least gets referenced. The only Wario/Waluigi representation in an rpg I can think of is Mario&Sonic at the Vancouver Winter Olympics for DS, the story mode (which I really enjoyed tbh)

I started it and died in mushroom way.

Enemies were taking away 1 hp per attack and then I fought a spiny and his attack took 9 hp away.
