with the frying pan weapon she can deal as much physical damage as mario
when she gets her one attack spell she can do as much magical damage as mallow

The one missable thing that people ITT are talking about is a chest above a doorway in the Mushroom Kingdom Castle. You have to stand on a Toad's head to get it, but he only appears once when you first get there.

id go with attack for peach as well
her healing is already strong enough when you get her and she only has a single attack spell that you dont get until late game anyway and like i said the frying pan is a powerful weapon for her
so invest in attack up for her as well since when she isnt healing she can be attacking

Which never made any sense because there is no way in hell one would know that it was there at the time unless you had a players guide.

Even then it's still easy to miss.

just play the game how you want and have fun. anything you miss isn't gonna be a big deal. not like you'll struggle too much with any bosses. the game is a bit harder than paper mario from what i remember but it's been 10+ years since the last time i played.

The game gives numerous hints if you play through the various minigame thingies in order to get them and the password becomes obvious with them.

This spoiler isn't some sort of critical plot detail or anything and you lose nothing by reading it. You may want to save immediately before going in there. I once messed up and failed to get it on my first try despite knowing about it from getting it on previous playthroughs.

You can permanently miss 2 accessories if you fail 2 hiding minigames. But they're not that good really.

Otherwise enjoy it. Super Mario RPG is my favorite game ever and it flows pretty well imo. It's not that long either

I absolutely HATE that missible. You literally have to break the fourth wall to get it since, in the context of the story, Mario hasn't been told about the existence of the hidden chests. He's also putting the rescue of the princess on hold to grab a hidden item... which now that I think about it is something he does all the time.

In hindsight, Mario's kind of an ass. <_<

A lot depends on your playstyle, but Mario at his peak is best as a mage, throughout the entire game because Jump gets stronger the more you use it.
Geno is great for physical and AOE magic.
Bowser also has some use as a mage/debuffer, but probably not for a normal playthrough.

I agree with leveling Toadstool for physical, too. Maybe a few points in magic. She is a mage, but her magic is strong enough on its own.

Also the game has its own suggested leveling path. One stat gets extra boosted every level and you just follow that path and be fine.

Yeah I just followed the suggested path and you're fine. Every number has a predetermined stat bonus that is higher than all the stats for that level:
Level 2 - Special
Level 3 - Attack
Level 4 - HP
Level 5 - Special
Level 6 - Attack
Level 7 - HP
etc etc.

Basically just check Special and Attack before you commit. If either of them go up more than 1 point, choose that. If they're both only 1 point, then choose HP.

Also this. Every 2 times you use Jump, it increases damage by 1 point, up to 125 points or 250 jumps.

This is the only special that has that weird mechanic. idkwhy >_>

ill never forget the sunken ship password
its my most humiliating gaming story
i got the game when i was in grade 2
i didnt beat the game until i was in grade 8

for the life of me i couldnt figure out the password creating a vicious cycle where i would reach the password, get stuck at the password, stop playing the game, and then come back to it 5 months later but not wanting to just continue from my old save i would instead restart

one day i got the clue i was missing and everything just clicked
i have a pretty bad memory but that is one thing that will never leave my mind

FP is your Mp. It does not get refreshed at the end of battles. Only by using syrups, sleeping in inns, or getting recovery mushrooms from chests.

Also, your FP is shared by all party members, so keep that in mind when using specials

If I want my Jump special to be as strong as possible, is it the only special move Mario is allowed to use? Like, will its power boost reset if I use a different special with Mario for whatever reason?

oh also do weapons have any special effects beyond stat increases? Like now that I have the hammer, does it make any sense to fight with the barehanded punches any more?

Jump does not reset, the game tracks usage internally as a "hidden" stat. This is only tracked with Jump though, it does not track Super Jump or Ultra Jump. Similarly the 100 consecutive Super Jump benchmark only tracks most consecutive Super Jumps in a cast and not Ultra Jumps. As for weapons, I vaguely recall there being something about using unarmed that made them sometimes preferable but I can't remember what it is, might be something concerning variance or crits, I do know outside of that one thing that weapons can actually miss while unarmed can't. Clearly this shouldn't make any noticeable difference in casual play.

Unarmed have no "range" per se. Every weapom has an RNG range but most of them are minimal
The only exceptions are Mario's Masher and Lazy Shell. The Masher is powerful but its RNG range is HUGE so sometimes you hit for massive damage and other times you could hit for almost nothing. The Lazy Shell also jas a big RNG range but it isn't as bad as the Masher's and it's still preferable to the Ultra Hammer.

All weapons are merely just stat bonuses with the exception of 1. There's a hammer you can buy in Seaside Town after you get the 5th star that has 0 attack but gives you a "Lucky!" bonus everytime you attack. So you can gamble for bonus exp/coins every battle if you want >_>

Also, all armors for everyone are just stat bonuses with the exception of 3, which everyone can equip:

-Work Pants from Moleville give you a buff to your attack and speed as well as a mild buff to defense. Best used on Bowser for 90% of the game since it literally outclasses all his normal armor until the volcano dungeon

-Lazy Shell which decreases your attack and magic attack and speed by a shit ton, but increases your defense and magic defense by a shit ton and gives immunity to status effects and instant death. Basically you'll probably only get 1 point of damage from almost every attack in the game except from the most powerful spells. Best used on Peach for the whole game cuz it makes her a near unkillable healer.

-Super Suit increases your attack, defense, and speed by an insane amount and protects against status effects, but is next to impossible to obtain. You have to get 100 Super Jumps, which basically means you have to time an input 100 times with a 2-frame window >_> Can be used on anyone but Mario or Geno probably get the most out of it. I think Lazy Shell has *slightly* higher defense but this has zero penalties from wearing it

Mallows atk stat is about 10 less than Mario, his basic attacks are doing like 1-2 damage on all the enemies now. I heard he was a weak character but is this... normal?

just got the first star. Im guessing this whole portion of the game was just a tutorial-type thing to ease players in.

I know its unfair to compare this to the Mario rpgs that came out later on more advanced systems, but this game would really benefit from more music tracks to fit the changing situations. Something that stands out to me about the M&L games is just how often and how quickly the music tracks change depending on whats happening on screen, as the game instantly can switch up from generic overworld music to important character/event music to comic relief music to hectic chase scene music to here comes trouble! Music in like the span of 1 scene. During the short scene before fighting the sword boss and his 4 shyguy bodyguards, i identified like 3-4 times the music wouldve switched up to accommodate what was being shown/said on screen, if this was a Mario&Luigi game. nothing wrong with it by any means, but its just that the dialouge style is so similar to M&L, and those games have conditioned me to expect a very dynamic, constantly changing soundtrack
