Black people don't have the means to name counterfeit money. How would he know it was a counterfeit bill and who put it there in the first place?

Saying blacks can't commit white collar crime is racist bro

Weird thing is that we never heard anything about the bill again or if it was even counterfeit.

You are supposed to turn over counterfeit bills to the police or secret service. Most likely the police though.

I think people should think a lot more seriously about the chain of events they could be putting into motion when they call the police on someone and what information they give. And I think we could creates a system where someone other than someone with a gun/trained in violence would show up for a report of a counterfeit bill or a drunk guy.

Two things I can take from this thread. One, having a police force that is less a police force and more a paramilitary is a problem. Two, dollar bills need updating to more modern anti counterfeit standards and the old bills taken out of circulation.

Most places have insurance that covers this sort of thing and the police rarely actually get called/involved.

Do most places have insurance for letting drunk drivers leave?

What are you talking about? Ive worked several different retail and food service jobs and EVERY time counterfeit money got handed to us the cops were called to look at the issue. And each time we took the hit without having some insurance cover it.

If not mentioned, I'm sure the results would have been different if it had been some other cop instead of Chauvin.

Anyway is counterfeit items a FBI issue?

Usually regular or beat cops will be like "shrug".

Did the cops always come right away in a group and start harassing the customer?

I don't think it was OK. I'm not aware of any federal or state law that requires ordinary citizens to actively search for and report potentially counterfeit money. Any time people interact with police--whether you are suspected of wrongdoing or not--they are inviting possible trouble. It is standard legal advice in the US to never speak to the police. What is the best thing that can happen to you if you talk to an officer? They don't arrest you, that's what. Unless you are the victim of a serious crime (say, you've been burglarized and need to file a report) what great benefit is there to calling the police? Call if you have to, speak if you have to, but otherwise don't.

In some states, you can be arrested for wasting an officer's time.

Good idea. Next time someone breaks in my house I'll just waste their ass with a silenced rifle and haul the carcass to a pig farm.

It's fair to call the cops when counterfeit currency is used

Because most of the time it's been passed to the person without their knowledge and everybody is fine after the call (as long as no one's drunk or belligerent... I believe that can end quite badly).

But sometimes counterfeit money is used to fund drug cartels, drug dealers and terrorism (and more counterfeiting) and this person can be passing fake bills all day long.

So yes, 100% justified.

Imagine telling someone "your money looks fake, get out of here."

How do you think they are going to react? Bonus points if they are already drunk or drugged up.

I encountered a few of these while working retail. They usually give up and leave.

Calling the police could be considered an act of violence.

Floyd didn't deserve to die, but he'd be rotting in jail today if he hadn't.

He was high on Fentanyl and Coke...while using fake money...while in the driver seat of the car he was driving around...while on probation from prison from holding a pregnant woman at gunpoint and had a history of having illegal firearms.

If he resists arrest, "violence" is the course of action police are entitled too.

You can never predict how the cops will act in todays society.

Actually, you can, thanks to statistics.

Barely over a handful of unarmed black men were killed by police officers in 2019. 7, I believe. Out of this handful, most were doing something unlawful in a tense situation.

You have damn near better odds of getting struck by lightning than being killed by a cop if you aren't breaking a crime and aren't armed.

Until there is meaningful reform in the nation, getting the cops involved should be avoided at all costs

Funny, they interviewed a bunch of older black people in Harlem and they overwhelming disagree with you.

I guess that must be some of that ignorant "I live in a nice neighborhood and don't know how bad shit is in the bad parts of town" priviledge.
