Whether it's an upgrade or not depends on the individual (I love them, personally). XSEED handles it now so it has a new and improved translation. For features, same sex marriage is now available. Two new candidates. More heart events. Mining is more convenient. Crops have a rank now. More variety in pets, farm animals, and crops. A new park area in town, and there are some clothing options (from what I understand, the clothing isn't like in the 3DS games so don't expect that). --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

They flat out call it same sex marriage in the localisation. So hyped for it and its the first one Europe have gotten before the US as we usually have to wait an extra year or 19 years for 64.

HM DS was ok but a bit easy to accidentally perma fuck up your save. IIRC if you send a sprite team fishing in Winter the game can glitch and give you shit tons of money but can also glitch and fuck up your save.

I still own a CIB version of Harvest Moon. It's beaten up to all hell, but it's all there. I also own BTN and FoMT. Those were the last HM games I played until they made the jump to 3DS and came out with A New Beginning.

My personal favorite is Trio of Towns, these days. I'm not sure if Mineral Town remake will beat it or not but either way I know I'm going to love every ounce of it.

Looked it up and found the following that will be useful for finding a fixed copy:
Looking at the serial number in the back, you can find the letters: ABCEN...
