From: https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2019/08/28/what-does-america-have-against-vacation/

Even Japan--known for its extremely workaholic society, to the point where death from overwork is an actual health crisis with its own term--legally requires its businesses to offer paid vacation time and holidays. Yeah, many companies in America still offer them, but they're not legally required to do so.

America, what's wrong with you?

that's what happens when you've got a system of government that oscillates between two diametrically opposed parties every couple years. any progress on the left is immediately undermined by the right and their 'conservative values' bullshit.

Wages aren't stagnant in the US, and are actually significantly higher than other countries. But no one wants to talk about that because it goes against the narrative.

Yeah and the fact that one party always seems to give ground to the other means its been all downhill for decades. For example, Obama got the top-margin tax rate up a bit to 35%, which is still absurdly low compared to what it was when our economy was booming in eras past, then Trump brought it down to around 20%. And now, as a compromise Biden is saying hell get it back up to just 28%. Which is still obviously better but it shows how we are always losing ground and never gaining any.

No, you want lower wages, a tighter labor market that keeps young people and immigrants unemployed and a regressive taxation system.

Mainly because you don't fucking understand how those things you want end up being payed for. All you do is mindlessly consume propaganda about Europe being a progressive utopia that has magically figured out how to give something for nothing. Yet you think you're different than people on the right who do the same thing? You're not immune to propaganda.

I definitely don't want those things and I obviously know nothing is free. Doesn't change that people are overworked, underpaid, and under power.

And actually, aren't neither the US nor France near the top when it comes to standard of living?

You might not want those things but you're arguing in favor of policies that lead to those things. If you knew nothing is free you would have asked what the cost are to the average French person and not just assumed they get something for nothing.

The great thing about the US system is that we recognize such trade offs and let people choose. You're free to seek out a lower paying job if it gives you better benefits like more vacation time, but you're also free to choose higher pay. In countries like France there is no such choice, you are stuck with lower pay and fewer job opportunities than in the US. All so they can look impressive on a graph and convince people in the US they get both.
