Yeah I figured you couldn't really compare NHL to MLB due to the bubbling. Though I imagine something like, maybe if they make the conference finals, he bubbles back into quarantine and he's back for the Cup Finals if they get there. Though if they're able to win 2 series with Halak they probably keep rolling with him anyways... but ideally they win 0 series!

Apparently management knew this was a possibility and he has a newborn at home. So either he's telling the truth and I'm not going to hold anything against him cause you gotta do what you have to protect your family. Or he's lying and doing this to spite the Bruins which fits into my "fuck the Bruins" mindset. Either way, this hurts the Bruins chances of winning this year so I don't really care what the truth is!

He made it very clear he has no respect for the games being played after game 2. He would have to do a total 180 on his stance to even want to return.

He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with those comments.

It comes off as doing it to spite the NHL to me, and using the newborn/the virus as an excuse because he decided he's bored of playing.

The timing of the opt out was the closest he could get to game time before opting out. It feels calculated.

It's like, the Caps win the cup that one time and then it's back to form. Which is early playoff exits. But at least they had that one time...

I mean they swept the Penguins last year! Maybe we should have seen this coming.

This game is why I felt the Blackhawks wouldn't get swept.

Crawford isn't what he used to be but I trusted him to steal at least one.

Same for Colorado, who had one stolen yesterday.

I did not think Vegas was going to score. Locked in Crawford is a monster. He's just well past being able to do it consistently.

Kuemper was barely on my radar before this postseason but he's been impressive on a team that was clearly outclassed by Nashville and is even more outclassed here.

I still believe if he didn't get injured he'd have ended up #2 in Vezina voting behind Rask! Really, just stuck on a team that can't score.

Probably not many more "steals" in his future, or Crawford's. The Crawford one was really unexpected considering his stats as of late.

Looking forward to tomorrow's slate of games, I may actually watch them all. (also just realized all 4 teams I'm rooting for in Monday's games are down 2-1 in their series so yeah... got some work to do)

I think that first period was saying "This series is over time to pack it up".

The Blue Jackets are done, the Coyotes are done, and the Hurricanes look done as well.

That first Bruins goal was awful and seems to have just completely killed them. They still don't have a shot in the third 13 minutes in. As soon as I saw that goal I thought they were going to lose this game.

What we've learned in this round is the Flyers took the round Robin seriously and aren't close to as good as they looked, whereas the Bruins didn't care at all and quickly became one of the best teams again once they did.

I didn't end up watching any games today, probably for the best. How the hell did the Hurricanes lose that one. Poor Kuemper. Poor Bluejackets.

The Hurricanes took almost 19 minutes to record one shot in the third, which also happened to score a goal. Halak did not have a good game.

Reimer made a misplay that gave up an empty net goal around the middle of the third period to make it 2-1, and all hell broke loose for the Hurricanes after. Boston played one of the most Dominant periods of the entire postseason. They made the Hurricanes look completely incompetent at hockey in the third.

The Hurricanes were the best looking team after round 1 after dismantling the Rangers. Boston really is just that good when they're in full game.

I feel the team that might match up best with them is the Islanders because of their ability to slow down a game, but that didn't look like a team anyone in the East is beating if it plays at that level.

Every team that played in the round Robin has proven itself clearly better than its opponent.. Except Washington.

Islanders know this and are going for the jugular early on with an uncharacteristically strong offensive start.

Islanders Dominated most of the first period, then acted like the game was already over entering the second period up 2-0. They completely mailed it in, then couldn't turn it back on when they deservedly got run over for it.

The second and third periods were by far the worst two they've played.

The Lightning did exactly what the Islanders did, assumed the game was over when they were up 2-0 early, and have self destructed since. The parallels are uncanny.

There was a clearly worse boarding hit in Islanders/Capitals that wasn't even reviewed, and just given 2 minutes, and this one gets reviewed and called a major and a game misconduct.

The NHL's review system continues to be inconsistent...

Very unimpressed by both the Flyers and by Price in that series. I don't fear the Flyers anymore. They look pretty clearly like the weakest remaining team in the East.

The question going in was if Price could steal the series, and he might have cost Montreal the series instead.

Bruins in 7
Islanders in 6

Still taking Knights/Avalanche both in 6, though wouldn't be surprised to see Colorado do it in 5.

Once the Blues lose, I will have officially had 7 of the 8 teams I was rooting for in the first round eliminated. Only Vegas made it and I mean, that always felt like a sure thing anyways. Rough playoff season...

I guess now I gotta root for the Avalanche (which I would've anyways if they weren't playing the Coyotes) and the Lightning by default, fuck the Bruins... also yeah Islanders over Flyers, why not!

Kapanen to the Pens for a 1st round pick, which I think I love to see?

Leafs get back into the first round at #15 assuming it's this year's pick, while also getting some cap space.

"Kapanen for a 1st" is solid. Getting someone who could even theoretically be an NHL player seems almost unnecessary on the Pens' part.

Avalanche force a game 7. Hutchinson made some key saves, but man that goal he let in was super soft. Literally went to catch it and missed hard. Wonder if they win tomorrow, if Grubauer has any shot of coming back in the WCF.

Grubauer injured, out indefinitely. Francouz was pretty brutal during games 3 and 4, so they put Hutch in for game 5. They spotted him a 5-0 lead in the first period of game 5, so he was never really in danger. Then last game, outside of that super weak one, he was fine, though his rebound control was spotty at best.

Oh wow, and Francouz had been pretty great since Grubauer's injury in the regular season too. Well, I'll definitely watch Game 7 so long as it's not too late...

I never expected to see the Islanders of all teams outshooting their opponent 42-17 and be headed to overtime in a 4-4 game. Varlamov has never reached a .800 save percentage in this game.

Greiss needs to start game 7 if this goes there, though I cant see Tampa fearing either of these teams.

I suspect Vegas is going to score a couple early and Vancouver is going to be playing a lot of comeback. If they can actually pull it off it'd be interesting~

Looks like the Canucks are going to force a Game 7, now my question is, why the hell haven't they assigned times to tomorrow's games?

The Stars/Avs obviously should go first since Canucks/Golden Knights are a back to back, surely there's no way they go first. Stars/Avs afternoon and Canucks/Golden Knights at night "if necessary", no brainer. But we're less than 24 hours away and both games are TBD? While Saturday's game already has a time? Certainly no excuse for not giving Stars/Avs a start time, damn.

You see this so much more in hockey than in the other sports. Three game 7s featuring three teams that are drastically superior to their opponents being pushed to the brink just because goaltender is the most important position in any sports.

I feel like Dallas completely killed their momentum by putting Bishop in while up 3-1 though. They were down 1-0 after a similar first period before, a game in which they won, but that game was over well before the first even ended.
