if you mean the population of the united states and not the entire world, then 0.7% of that is 2.3 million people.

comparing that to the holocausts death toll of 5.8 million people (closer to 5.9m), and it looks even worse.

not to mention, that as a comparison, its the only one able to convey just how widespread this pandemic is. there has been no other tragedy to compare it to in size, its not close in size yet to the spanish flu.

But he didn't suggest that testing positive is a death sentence. Just that roughly half as many Americans have tested positive as the Holocaust killed people. It's a simple point of reference for the numbers involved.

5.8 were just the Jews who died in the Holocaust. The full number was around 11m. Either way, you're trying to compare deliberate mass murder with a natural phenomenon.

I know a man that was admitted to the hospital and placed on a ventilator for 3 weeks. He survived but he got close.
In the meantime, his daughter and wife also contracted it.
It was assumed that they had it, but they were never tested because they didnt need to be admitted. They were sent home where they managed it and never had to be admitted.
They were never counted as having COVID19.

Not testing positive doesn't really men anything. A lot of people haven't even been tested. Especially since a lot of people are asymptomatic. Not to mention, I know many people who believed they may have had it back when a bunch of people got sick at like the end December. Who knows if they had it or not. Either way, they weren't tested. And many places weren't testing people who possibly had it for reasons...

Nebraska, population 1,934,408 (est 2019). Number of tests performed so far: 163,368 Since March 8th. Number of tests performed today: 1,874. Time required to test the entire state population at the current testing rate: 2 years, 10 months.

How the hell can anyone know how many actual cases there are when it would take literally 3 years just to test everyone ONCE?

A reminder that Australia's done 2.1m tests, confirmed only 7k cases and only 100 have died. Mostly a cluster in an aged care home. Besides Victoria, we've got 2 of our 3 major national sports starting back up. A little sacrifice to get back to normal sooner.

Three people all with the same symptoms, in the same house, the dad goes to the hospital because he got so bad, the others told to stay home and not to go to the hospital unless they get sick enough to admit.
What else would they have had?

I would likely test positive for MRSA exposure because I worked with one patient who tested positive for MRSA. I'm not contagious, symptomatic, or dangerous. All this really amounts to is that if I am hospitalized, and I receive a MRSA test, all medical personnel would have to wear PPE when treating me. Testing positive is meaningless.
